Position Overview

The Yard Services & Inventory Specialist supports daily lumber yard operations with a primary focus on yard services, receiving, and inventory accuracy. This role is hands-on and yard-first, requiring regular physical work outdoors while also performing inventory-related transactions from an office located in the yard.

This position plays a key role in maintaining safe, efficient yard operations, accurate inventory records, and timely customer service.

Areas of Responsibility

Yard Operations

Assist with unloading vendor deliveries and accurately counting materials as receivedBuild, stage, and verify delivery loadsLocate, pull, and load materials for customer pickupsProvide prompt, courteous service to customers in the yardOperate forklifts and other yard equipment safely (training/certification provided if needed)Maintain clean, organized, and safe yard conditions, including clear aisles and proper material storageSupport yard crew activities to ensure smooth daily operationsFollow safety procedures

Inventory Receiving

Verify incoming materials against purchase orders and report shortages, damages, or discrepanciesProcess inventory-related transactions accurately and in a timely mannerPerform routine cycle countsInvestigate inventory discrepancies and communicate findings to managementCommunicate low-stock, or quality issues

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

Work collaboratively with yard, sales, logistics, and management teamsIdentify opportunities for process improvement, efficiency, and cost savingsParticipate in training opportunities related to products, equipment, and systems

Required Skills and Abilities

Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 50 lbs repeatedlyWillingness to work outdoors in all weather conditionsStrong attention to detail when counting materials and processing inventoryBasic computer skills and ability to learn inventory software (Spruce)Strong customer service and communication skillsDependable, flexible, and team-oriented mindsetCommitment to safe work practicesHigh School DiplomaValid Drivers License, Chauffer's License a plus.

Physical Requirements

Standing, walking, climbing, stooping, and kneeling frequentlyLifting, pushing, and pulling materials up to 50 lbs regularlyAbility to see, hear, and communicate effectively in an active yard environmentAbility to use computer systems for inventory and documentation tasks
