General Summary:

The Senior Accountant will play a critical role in managing Alta's revenue and cash flow processes. This individual will oversee customer invoicing, collections, accounts payable operations, vendor management, cash application, and related reconciliations while helping ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, customer-service focused, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, project-based professional services environment.

Responsibilities

Accounts Receivable & Collections

  • Manage the full accounts receivable cycle, including invoice distribution, payment application, account reconciliation, and collections.
  • Monitor aging reports and proactively follow up on outstanding balances.
  • Partner with project managers and department leaders to resolve billing and collection issues.
  • Maintain strong customer relationships while ensuring timely payment of invoices.
  • Prepare and analyze AR metrics and collection performance reports.

Billing & Invoicing

  • Prepare and process client invoices accurately and on schedule.
  • Review project billing information for completeness and compliance with contract requirements.
  • Coordinate with project managers to ensure labor, expenses, and subcontractor costs are billed appropriately.
  • Support monthly billing cycles and revenue recognition processes.
  • Identify opportunities to improve billing efficiency and reduce invoice processing time.

Accounts Payable

  • Manage accounts payable operations, including invoice review, coding, approvals, and payment processing.
  • Ensure timely and accurate vendor payments.
  • Maintain vendor records and assist with vendor communications.
  • Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.
  • Support annual 1099 preparation and compliance efforts.

Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Perform account reconciliations and support month-end close activities.
  • Assist with preparation of financial reports and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare journal entries and maintain accounting records.
  • Support annual audits and financial reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting procedures.

Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and improve internal controls.
  • Assist with implementation of process automation initiatives.
  • Help develop and document accounting procedures and best practices.
  • Contribute to the continued growth and scalability of the finance function.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 4+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of accounts receivable, accounts payable, billing, and general accounting principles.
  • Experience with QuickBooks Enterprise and DelTek platforms.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Preferred

  • Experience in engineering, environmental consulting, architecture, construction, or other project-based professional services industries.
  • Experience with project accounting and contract-based billing.
  • CPA certification or progress toward CPA preferred.
