Job Description

Senior Database Management Specialist

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Database Management Specialist based in United States.

This is a technically focused database management role supporting mission-critical government applications and enterprise environments.
You will provide advanced expertise across Oracle and Microsoft SQL database technologies, from implementation and administration to performance optimization.
The role combines hands-on database engineering with security, troubleshooting, backup, recovery, and data integrity responsibilities.
You will partner closely with application development teams and database infrastructure specialists to keep systems reliable and secure.
The position also contributes to cloud and physical database environments, application upgrades, and remediation of security findings.
Success in this role requires strong technical judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to translate application needs into robust database solutions.
It is an opportunity to make a direct impact on the stability, security, and performance of systems supporting a major federal mission.

Accountabilities:
  • Provide highly technical expertise and operational support for database management systems, including Oracle and Microsoft SQL environments, while advising application teams on database architecture, implementation, and best practices.
  • Support Oracle application database implementations across physical and cloud environments, including loading schemas, scripts, and data into Oracle or Microsoft SQL databases as required by application teams.
  • Create and maintain primary database objects such as tables, views, and indexes, and modify them when necessary to resolve issues or accommodate application requirements.
  • Define appropriate file organization, indexing strategies, access controls, and security procedures for specific applications while ensuring database designs support performance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain database backup and recovery procedures across processing environments, ensuring data integrity, security, availability, and recoverability are built into database applications.
  • Control and monitor database access, enroll users, maintain system security, and support appropriate authorization practices across database environments.
  • Monitor and optimize database performance by running monthly Oracle Automated Workload Repository (AWR) reports, analyzing findings, and recommending improvements to enhance application performance.
  • Assist with performance tuning, troubleshooting, and resolution of application database errors and issues, particularly those associated with Oracle database technologies.
  • Provide database consultation and knowledge sharing for both new and existing projects, helping application teams understand database requirements, capabilities, and technical considerations.
  • Collaborate with database infrastructure teams and application stakeholders to coordinate technical activities, resolve database problems, and support effective application-to-database integration.
  • Research, document, and help remediate Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) findings associated with application database environments.
  • Evaluate and recommend appropriate DBMS products and technologies based on validated user requirements, current technology capabilities, application needs, and operational considerations.
  • Support approved Oracle database upgrades and migrations to later releases, helping application teams prepare for changes while maintaining system stability and compatibility.

Requirements:

  • Hold an IT-II security clearance or a current National Agency Check with Local Agency Check and Credit Check (NACLC). Basic federal clearance requirements include U.S. citizenship, a clear criminal history check, and no recent or pending bankruptcies.
  • Have at least five years of relevant professional experience in database management, DBMS system analysis, programming, administration, or a closely related technical discipline.
  • Demonstrate experience working with current DBMS technologies, application design, and multiple database management systems, with an understanding of DBMS internals and database architecture.
  • Have hands-on experience with Oracle database technologies and Microsoft SQL databases, including database implementation, schema and data loading, database objects, access management, troubleshooting, and operational support.
  • Be capable of running and interpreting Oracle Automated Workload Repository (AWR) reports and using performance findings to identify potential database optimizations.
  • Hold the Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate certification.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to investigate complex database issues, identify root causes, and implement practical solutions.
  • Communicate effectively with application developers, infrastructure specialists, technical stakeholders, and other project teams, including the ability to explain database requirements and recommendations clearly.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail and a security-conscious approach when managing access controls, database integrity, backup and recovery, and security remediation activities.

Benefits:

  • Four medical and vision plan options, including a Health Savings Account (HSA) plan.
  • Dental and orthodontia coverage.
  • Vision materials coverage.
  • Employer-paid life insurance, short-term disability, and long-term disability coverage.
  • 401(k) retirement program with employer contribution.
  • Paid vacation, holidays, sick leave, floating holidays, and bereavement leave.
  • Semi-monthly pay cycle.
