As a Staff Backend Engineer, you will take ownership of designing, building, and scaling highly impactful backend systems while contributing to technical strategy and engineering excellence. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to solve complex problems, improve system reliability, and deliver AI-powered solutions that create real-world value.
- Design, architect, and implement scalable backend systems that support AI-driven workflows and large-scale data processing.
- Own major technical decisions, establish architectural direction, and drive engineering initiatives with significant autonomy.
- Build and optimize LLM-based systems capable of processing billions of unstructured data points and extracting actionable insights.
- Develop reliable services using modern cloud technologies, asynchronous workflows, and serverless architectures.
- Solve complex engineering challenges involving system design, performance optimization, debugging, and scalability.
- Partner with teammates to experiment, iterate, and improve solutions through rapid testing and data-driven decision-making.
- Drive projects from concept to completion while maintaining high standards for code quality, reliability, and maintainability.
- Contribute to engineering culture through knowledge sharing, technical mentorship, and continuous improvement.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate is an experienced backend engineer with strong technical fundamentals, a passion for solving difficult problems, and the ability to operate independently in a fast-moving environment. You should combine deep engineering expertise with curiosity, ownership, and a strong focus on delivering meaningful outcomes.
- 8+ years of software engineering experience, with a proven ability to design and deliver complex systems.
- Strong expertise in backend engineering, system design, debugging, and large-scale application development.
- Experience working with LLMs in production environments and understanding of deploying AI systems at scale.
- Strong programming skills in Python or another object-oriented programming language.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, including services like Lambda and EC2.
- Familiarity with asynchronous processing workflows, distributed systems, and cloud-based architectures.
- Experience working with relational databases, ideally PostgreSQL.
- Ability to take full ownership of projects, communicate proactively, and operate effectively with minimal supervision.
- Strong problem-solving mindset with a willingness to experiment, learn quickly, and tackle unresolved challenges.
- Bonus: experience building document processing pipelines or systems handling large volumes of data.
