About the role
The Finance Director is responsible for overseeing the financial health, strategy, and operations of the organization. This position provides leadership in financial planning, budgeting, reporting, compliance, internal controls, risk management, and organizational sustainability. The Finance Director serves as a strategic partner to executive leadership and the Board of Directors by providing accurate financial information, analysis, and recommendations to support informed decision-making.
The Finance Director ensures the organization’s financial practices align with nonprofit accounting standards, applicable regulations, donor requirements, and the organization’s mission.
What you'll do
- Provide strategic financial leadership and serve as a trusted advisor to the President, executive leadership team, and Board of Directors on financial strategy, risks, opportunities, and organizational sustainability.
- Develop and execute financial strategies that support the organization's mission, including annual budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and long-term financial planning.
- Oversee all financial operations, including accounting, payroll, financial reporting, audits, compliance, and internal controls to ensure accuracy, transparency, and fiscal responsibility.
- Lead the preparation and presentation of timely financial statements, management reports, and Board-level financial reporting.
- Establish, maintain, and continuously improve financial policies, procedures, and processes that promote strong internal controls and operational effectiveness.
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, GAAP, regulatory requirements, tax obligations, and applicable financial reporting requirements.
- Partner with department leaders to develop budgets, analyze financial performance, evaluate resource allocation, and support informed operational and strategic decisions.
- Manage audit activities, tax filings, regulatory reviews, and relationships with auditors, banking partners, vendors, and other external stakeholders.
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support organizational initiatives, program decisions, investments, contracts, and long-term growth opportunities.
- Lead, mentor, and develop finance team members while fostering a culture of accountability, accuracy, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required.
- CPA, MBA, or nonprofit finance certification preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including leadership experience.
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, QuickBooks Online, or similar systems
- Experience with audits, budgeting, financial analysis, and Board reporting.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively across departments.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools
Preferred Experience
- Experience working in a nonprofit organization preferred.
- Experience with restricted funds, donor reporting, or nonprofit compliance.
- Experience implementing financial policies, systems, or process improvements.
- Experience with accounting software and financial management systems.

The pay range for this role is:
135,000 - 150,000 USD per year(St. George)
