MAYWOOD PARK DISTRICT
Program Manager Job Opportunity

Maywood Park District is seeking qualified candidates for the full-time position of Program Manager.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Program Manager is a key member of the Maywood Park District management team responsible for planning, developing, implementing, supervising, and evaluating recreation programs, events, leagues, classes, facility use, and community services.
This position provides day-to-day leadership of program operations, staff supervision, customer service, community partnerships, program budget oversight, and program growth while ensuring safe, inclusive, fiscally responsible, and high-quality services aligned with District priorities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Program Leadership
• Plan, organize, and directly oversee recreation programs, services, events, leagues, classes, and special activities.
• Provide on-site program leadership and support, including set-up, supervision, and troubleshooting.
• Develop and adapt programs based on community feedback, participation levels, needs, and available MPD resources in compliance with MPD ordinances, policies, standards and applicable Illinois law.
• Ensure programs meet applicable safety, accessibility, and inclusion standards, including compliance with the Americans for Disabilities Act (“ADA”).
• Execute contracts and agreements on behalf of MPD only as expressly authorized by the Director of Operations, and coordinate with MPD’s legal counsel on such contracts and agreements.
• Operates within delegated authority levels established by Board policy, ordinance, and administrative direction.
Budget / Administration
• Prepare and monitor program budgets, revenues, expenses, and cost recovery goals.
• Review purchasing requests, invoices, and vendor needs in accordance with policy.
• Maintain accurate reports, records, registrations, incident documentation, and operational files.
Staff Management
• Recruit, train, supervise, coach, evaluate, and discipline assigned staff in accordance with District policy.
• Manage scheduling, payroll/timekeeping review, and staffing coverage.
• Promote accountability, professionalism, teamwork, and service standards.
Risk / Compliance
• Ensure compliance with safety requirements, ADA standards, labor laws, District policies, and operational procedures.
• Oversee incident reporting and emergency response readiness.
• Safeguard District property, records, systems, keys, passwords, and confidential information.
Community & Intergovernmental Relations
• Serve as liaison with residents, schools, nonprofits, businesses, and partners.
• Respond professionally to public concerns and program inquiries.
• Assist with sponsorship, grant, and partnership development.
Facilities & Vendor Coordination
• Coordinate facility usage, reservations, and equipment needs for programs and events.
• Manage contractual services, instructors, and vendors, and ensure compliance with insurance, contractual, and MPD ordinance and policy requirements.
Governance Support
• Attend Board meetings as assigned or required.
• Prepare reports, recommendations, and updates for leadership and the Board.
Other
• Perform other duties as assigned.
WORK SCHEDULE
• Evenings, weekends, holidays, and special event hours as needed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Ability to work in office, program sites, meetings, and outdoor events.
• Ability to stand, walk, lift up to 30 pounds, and actively support events/programs.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree preferred in Recreation, Public Administration, Business, Management, or related fields.
• 3+ years supervisory or management experience preferred.
• Prior municipal, park district, nonprofit, or recreation leadership experience strongly preferred.
• Strong leadership, budgeting, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and lead teams effectively.
• Valid Illinois Driver’s License required.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Salary: $55,000 annually, depending upon the selected candidate’s education, training, relevant experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors. The position is full-time and eligible for vacation, sick leave and paid time off.
