About the role
MELDS LLC is seeking a detail-oriented Quality Lab Technician to support our second-shift production operations. This role is responsible for performing laboratory testing, monitoring product quality throughout the manufacturing process, and ensuring materials meet established quality standards and customer specifications.
The ideal candidate is organized, quality-focused, and comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This position plays a critical role in maintaining product consistency, supporting production efficiency, and driving continuous improvement efforts.
What you'll do
- Perform routine laboratory testing on raw materials and finished products, including melt flow index, density, moisture analysis, and visual inspections.
- Accurately record, document, and track test results using company systems, including IQMS/E-Plant.
- Monitor production samples and verify compliance with internal quality standards and customer requirements.
- Communicate quality concerns, nonconformances, and test results to production supervisors and management in a timely manner.
- Assist with troubleshooting material and product quality issues on extrusion lines.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and proper operation of laboratory equipment and testing areas.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and quality protocols.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on product quality, process efficiency, and operational performance.
- Perform additional quality-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical, manufacturing, or science-related background preferred.
- Previous experience in plastics manufacturing, extrusion, quality assurance, or a related manufacturing environment preferred.
- Basic understanding of laboratory equipment and measurement tools.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and effectively communicate with production teams.
- Basic computer skills, including data entry and Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment and follow established safety procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with polypropylene or recycled plastic materials.
- Familiarity with melt flow testing and material property analysis.
- Experience in a fast-paced manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Knowledge of quality management systems and production data tracking software.
Schedule
- 2nd Shift: Monday–Friday, 4:00 PM – 12:00 AM
- 3rd Shift: Monday–Friday, 12:00 AM – 8:00 AM
- Schedule may vary based on production needs.
- Occasional overtime and weekend work may be required.
