Basic Purpose
Supports management in the planning, directing and leadership activities of the Plant Accounting department to ensure accurate and timely reporting of fixed assets and construction work in process. Ensures adequate accounting system controls for Plant Accounting and the related accounting activities and transactions. Coordinates and reviews documents that assist in complying with filing of required reports with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission ("SEC"), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (“FERC”) and other required external financial reporting for the Company.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Prepares as needed and reviews staff reports, journal entries and reconciliations related to plant accounting related costs of Company and monitoring of the cost of sales accounting area.
- Supports management in the preparation and review of key deliverables needed for filing of required reports with the SEC, FERC and other required external financial reporting for the Company.
- Monitors regulatory orders and developments in all jurisdictions as they impact accounting issues to ensure appropriate accounting and reporting changes are made. Ensures that the Company’s regulatory accounting records comply with all regulatory orders and decisions.
- Supports management of SOX sections 302 and 404 compliance initiatives to maintain all documentation of internal controls over financial reporting related to plant accounting costs with no significant deficiencies or material weaknesses.
- Provides expert leadership to plant accounting personnel to ensure that corporate, divisional, departmental and unit goals and objectives are achieved within scheduled timeframes.
- Participates in preparing rate case statements and schedules, responses to data requests, provides support for all plant accounts in filings and regulatory proceedings.
- Provides operating personnel and management with accounting support on major projects to ensure that all plant reports are timely and accurate.
- Communicates with management on the proper allocation of capital costs according to GAAP and FERC principles. Leads accounting projects and/or process improvements by identifying opportunities for improvement, developing new processes or policies and implements processes or policies.
- Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Essential Education, Skills, and Environment
Education and Work Experience
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school in accounting or a related field and 6 years of related work experience. If degree is in a related field, applicant must have completed college-level coursework equivalent for Nevada CPAs.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrated knowledge of:
Finance, accounting, budgeting, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
Utility and plant accounting
Managing interdepartmental projects.
Demonstrated skills such as:
Analytical, problem solving, planning, time management, verbal and written communication, decision making, presentation, organization, project management, and interpersonal
Interpretation of accounting, financial and economic information
Prioritization of multiple issues and projects concurrently
Develops and maintains relationships with internal and external customers.
Equipment and Applications
PCs, word processing, spreadsheet software, compliance reporting and management tools and large-scale ERP software.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
General office environment. No special physical demands required.
