Job Description

Position Summary:

The Railcar Maintenance Technician performs hands-on repair, component replacement, inspection, and modification work on passenger rail vehicles. This position is suitable for candidates with general mechanical aptitude and experience using hand tools. Railroad experience is helpful but is not required; job-specific training will be provided.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform basic mechanical assembly, repair, and modification work on commuter rail vehicles under the direction of the Warranty Manager.
  • Remove, replace, and install components, brackets, bolts, nuts, fasteners, and other vehicle parts.
  • Perform Field Modification Instruction work by following written work instructions and report completion status.
  • Assist with vehicle inspections and basic troubleshooting when operational issues occur.
  • Use common hand tools and power tools safely and properly.
  • Record completed work and report vehicle conditions, findings, and recurring issues to the Manager.
  • Move tools, replacement parts, and materials within the work area as needed.
  • Follow all company, railroad, workplace, and personal protective equipment safety requirements.
  • Work cooperatively with engineers, supervisors, technicians, and customer personnel.
  • Perform other hands-on maintenance and warranty support duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous hands-on experience in mechanical assembly, automotive repair, maintenance, construction, general repair, or a similar field is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to safely use common hand tools and power tools.
  • Ability to follow written work instructions and directions from supervisors.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude, reliability, and willingness to learn.
  • Basic ability to read mechanical drawings or technical documents is preferred but not required.
  • Railroad or rail vehicle experience is preferred but not required.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and work inside and around rail vehicles for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry tools, parts, and materials as required for assigned work.
  • Ability to work safely in a rail maintenance facility and use required personal protective equipment.
