About the role

The BI Manager is responsible for developing, maintaining, and governing our analytics, dashboards, and reporting solutions in support of project execution and leadership decision-making across Hays Electrical Services. This role transforms data from field, project, and corporate systems into clear, actionable insight on cost, schedule, productivity, and performance.

The BI Manager owns prioritization and execution for the BI team, sets the quality bar for everything it ships, and manages the people who build it. Working across a matrix organization, this role partners closely with Operations, Project Controls, IT, Finance, and leadership to make sure data is accurate, consistent, and aligned with how work is delivered in the field.

This is a hands-on management role. You'll be the person accountable for whether the team's output is accurate, consistent, and maintainable.

What you'll do

Analytics, Reporting & Prioritization Own the team's backlog — translate business needs and stakeholder requests into a prioritized set of work, sequence it, manage deadlines, and keep projects moving. Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards supporting project performance, executive reporting, and operational insight. Translate complex data into clear, usable information for project teams and leadership. Priorities shift, so staying flexible and re-sequencing when needed is part of the job.

Data Integration & Data Quality Partner with IT and other system owners to integrate data from field and enterprise systems — including Databricks, Viewpoint (Vista ERP), and ProjectSight — into a consistent reporting layer. Establish and enforce data definitions, standards, and governance so metrics mean the same thing across projects and divisions. Monitor data quality and resolve issues that impact reporting accuracy or usability.

Project Performance & Insight Support analysis of metrics such as cost performance and forecasting, schedule trends and variance, labor productivity and production rates, and early warning/risk indicators. Partner with Project Controls, Operations, and Finance to keep analytics aligned with business needs, and help leadership spot trends, risks, and opportunities across projects.

Power BI Development & Technical Governance Design scalable Power BI models, datasets, and visualizations. Enforce our shared reporting standards on everything the team builds — shared calc groups, parameters, and dimensions, our Power BI theme and canvas standards, and our git-based source control conventions for Power BI projects and Tabular Editor scripts. Manage report versioning and access controls. Support training and adoption of analytics tools across field and office teams, enabling self-service where appropriate while protecting data integrity.

Quality Control Own the review gate before anything ships: DAX correctness, adherence to report design standards, and performance. Nothing goes to stakeholders without your sign-off.

People Management Manage the BI team's workload and keep them on task. Be their first line for day-to-day support, growth, and performance — coaching, unblocking, and holding the team accountable to deadlines and quality.

Governance & Continuous Improvement Establish best practices for reporting cadence and dashboard usage and prevent fragmentation into one-off "shadow dashboards" outside the team's standards. Continuously improve analytics capabilities based on user feedback and evolving business needs. Support audits, executive reviews, and strategic initiatives with reliable data.

Required

· Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Business, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field

· 7+ years of experience in BI/analytics, project controls, data analytics, or related roles

· Experience managing or leading a BI/analytics team, including workload management and quality review of others' work

· Advanced, hands-on Power BI experience, including data modeling and DAX

· Strong understanding of construction execution, project controls, and field data workflows

· Experience working with construction and enterprise systems such as Viewpoint (Vista) or similar

· Familiarity with Databricks or a similar cloud data warehouse as a reporting source

· Experience with Tabular Editor (or comfort picking it up quickly) and source-controlling BI projects in git

· Ability to translate operational questions into meaningful analytics and prioritize competing requests as business needs shift

· Strong communication skills — this person will interact with business stakeholders to clarify requirements and manage expectations on delivery

· Experience supporting multiple divisions or business units

· Experience building or maintaining a shared/template semantic model used across multiple reports

· Experience aligning analytics across Operations, Project Controls, and Finance

· Background in construction, electrical contracting, or a similar project-based industry
