AMPAM Parks Mechanical is seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Electrical Heavy Equipment Operator for our El Cajon office.

The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely operating construction equipment while maintaining strong awareness of existing underground utilities, jobsite conditions, personnel, and surrounding equipment. This position performs work safely and in accordance with company policies, project specifications, OSHA/Cal-OSHA requirements, and applicable safety standards.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Safely operate heavy equipment, including excavators, mini excavators, backhoes, skid steers, loaders, trenchers, forklifts, telehandlers, and other construction equipment.

• Excavate and trench for underground electrical conduit, duct banks, vaults, handholes, equipment pads, and related electrical infrastructure.

• Perform grading, backfilling, compaction, material placement, and general site preparation.

• Locate, identify, and protect existing underground utilities before and during excavation activities.

• Read and interpret construction drawings, site plans, utility markings, grade stakes, elevations, and related project information.

• Assist electrical crews with the placement of conduit, vaults, materials, and other electrical components.

• Load, unload, move, and stage construction materials and equipment throughout the jobsite.

• Coordinate equipment movements with foremen, spotters, and ground personnel using established hand signals and communication procedures.

• Perform daily pre-operation inspections of assigned equipment and document equipment condition as required.

• Identify and report equipment defects, damage, and maintenance needs.

• Perform basic preventative maintenance, including fueling, greasing, cleaning, and checking fluids as authorized.

• Establish and maintain safe work areas around excavation and equipment operations.

• Follow all company safety policies and applicable OSHA/Cal-OSHA requirements, including excavation and trench safety requirements.

• Minimum of 2 years of experience operating heavy construction equipment.

• Experience performing excavation, trenching, grading, backfilling, compaction, and site preparation.

• Experience safely working around underground utilities and active construction crews.

• Demonstrated knowledge of equipment inspections, safe operating procedures, and basic preventative maintenance.

• Strong knowledge of excavation, trenching, grading, backfilling, compaction, and site preparation.

• Ability to excavate accurately and efficiently.

• Ability to safely operate a variety of heavy construction equipment.

• Ability to read and understand construction drawings, site plans, utility markings, grade stakes, elevations, and field layouts.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with foremen, electricians, spotters, and other jobsite personnel.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.

This position requires a safety-focused, dependable operator who can work effectively in changing field conditions and around active construction activities.
