This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr. SQL Database Administrator (DBA) based in United States.

This is a fully remote, contract opportunity supporting a federal customer’s enterprise SQL database environment. As a Senior SQL Database Administrator and Subject Matter Expert, you will oversee the administration, operations, monitoring, maintenance, and optimization of mission-critical database environments. The role spans Microsoft SQL Server and SQL Cluster environments across both on-premises and cloud infrastructure. You will take ownership of complex troubleshooting, performance tuning, High Availability, Disaster Recovery, security, and database automation initiatives. The position also involves close collaboration with technical teams and customer stakeholders to resolve issues and improve database reliability. Working hours are aligned with Eastern Time, with occasional after-hours support required for maintenance and patching activities. This opportunity is contingent upon contract award.

• Administer, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise Microsoft SQL Server environments, including standalone databases and SQL Server Cluster environments.
• Install, provision, configure, upgrade, patch, and maintain SQL Server databases and database servers while ensuring reliable day-to-day operations.
• Manage and support High Availability and Disaster Recovery solutions, including database backup, restoration, recovery, and DR processes.
• Perform advanced SQL Server performance tuning and optimization by analyzing database metrics, queries, indexes, configurations, and infrastructure to identify and resolve performance issues.
• Develop and maintain SQL scripts, database administration automation, configuration standards, and operational procedures to improve efficiency and consistency.
• Monitor database health, capacity, availability, and performance using enterprise tools such as Idera and SolarWinds, while conducting proactive capacity planning and recommending infrastructure or configuration improvements.
• Troubleshoot database-related application integrations, including enterprise platforms such as SharePoint, and collaborate with technical teams and stakeholders to resolve complex issues.
• Manage database incidents, support requests, and change requests through ServiceNow, leading complex troubleshooting efforts and root cause analysis when required.
• Support database security, auditing, encryption, and compliance requirements while maintaining appropriate administrative and operational controls.
• Participate in scheduled after-hours patching, server reboots, maintenance, and support activities, and document completed work for required weekly customer support reporting.

• 8+ years of professional experience in database administration or closely related database disciplines, with advanced hands-on expertise administering enterprise Microsoft SQL Server environments.
• Strong practical experience with Microsoft SQL Server, SQL Server Clustering, SQL scripting, database provisioning and configuration, backup and restoration, performance tuning, server and database patching, High Availability, Disaster Recovery, monitoring and alerting, and database security.
• Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot and resolve complex database and server issues, using strong analytical, diagnostic, and root cause analysis skills.
• Experience managing database incidents, operational changes, and technical support activities in structured enterprise environments.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical teams, customer stakeholders, and other cross-functional groups.
• Microsoft or SQL-related professional certification is preferred, along with previous federal government IT experience.
• Cloud database administration experience, ServiceNow, Idera, and/or SolarWinds experience are preferred.
• Additional experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, Oracle, or Microsoft Access is considered an advantage.
