Job Description
FIELD SERVICE TECHNICIAN
Full-Time | Auburn Hills, MI | $35-$45 per Hour
HERCO is seeking a skilled, hands-on Field Service Technician to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain capital equipment used in the high-pressure die casting (HPDC) and advanced manufacturing industries.
This position combines mechanical, electrical, automation, and robotics support, providing technicians with the opportunity to build a long-term career in industrial automation. Technicians will work both at HERCO's Auburn Hills facility and at customer locations throughout the United States and Canada. Travel (up to 50%) including overnight stays and occasional weekend work, is required.
As part of our commitment to employee development, HERCO provides company-paid technical training and certifications, including FANUC Robotics Training, OSHA 30, Rigging, Forklift, and Fall Protection certifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, commission, service, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain manufacturing and automation equipment.
- Perform mechanical assembly and machine building using hydraulic, pneumatic, and electromechanical components.
- Troubleshoot electrical systems, motor controls, sensors, drives, and industrial machinery.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical drawings.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED, trade school certification, or equivalent technical training.
- 3+ years of experience installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, or repairing industrial machinery or manufacturing equipment.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Experience working with hydraulic, pneumatic, and industrial mechanical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Familiarity with industrial controls, sensors, motors, and machine electrical systems.
- Basic computer skills and ability to complete electronic service reports.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel throughout the United States and Canada without restrictions.
- Ability to lift up to 70 pounds and work in manufacturing environments.
- Ability to successfully complete all required pre-employment screenings, including motor vehicle record review and other legally permissible background checks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, Automation, Robotics, Industrial Maintenance, or a related technical field.
- Journeyman or Master Electrician certification, electrical apprenticeship training, or equivalent experience.
- Experience with FANUC, ABB, KUKA, Motoman/Yaskawa, or other industrial robotic systems.
- Experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled equipment, including Allen-Bradley or Siemens systems.
- Experience with industrial automation, servo systems, VFDs, machine controls, and industrial networking.
- Background in HVAC, millwright, robotics, automation, ironwork, machine installation, or capital equipment service.
- Automotive, foundry, die casting, or manufacturing industry experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and technical documentation systems.
Technical Skills
Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:
- Industrial electrical systems (24VDC to 480VAC)
- Motor controls and VFDs
- PLCs and industrial controls
- Robotics and automation systems
- Hydraulics and pneumatics
- Industrial networking
- Mechanical assembly and alignment
- Equipment installation and commissioning
- Preventative maintenance and troubleshooting
