Key ResponsibilitiesDepartment Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Industrial Controls team, including Lead Controls Engineers, Controls Engineers, and Controls Technicians;Foster a collaborative, safety-focused, and high-performance team culture;Support recruitment, onboarding, performance management, coaching, and employee development;Identify training opportunities and build technical capabilities across the team;Develop and monitor departmental KPIs and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Oversee the successful execution of industrial controls and automation projects from estimating through commissioning;Allocate resources and manage team workloads to meet project schedules and customer expectations;Provide technical guidance on electrical control systems, PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, industrial networking, and automation systems;Review engineering designs, electrical drawings, panel layouts, bills of materials, and technical documentation;Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), startup, and commissioning activities as required;Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to company quality standards.
- Prepare, review, and approve estimates for industrial controls and automation projects;Review project scopes, specifications, and customer requirements;Approve change orders and technical proposals;Monitor project budgets, labour utilization, and departmental performance;Support forecasting, resource planning, and operational improvements.
- Establish engineering standards, best practices, and quality assurance processes;Provide technical expertise for PLC programming, HMI development, SCADA systems, industrial networking, and electrical control panel design;Troubleshoot complex control system issues and provide escalation support to project teams;Ensure compliance with applicable electrical codes, safety regulations, and customer specifications.
- Partner with various internal and external stakeholders across multiple trades and disciplines to ensure the successful planning, execution, and delivery of industrial automation projects;Provide technical support during proposal development and project planning;Build strong relationships with customers through technical excellence and responsive service.
The ideal candidate is an experienced industrial controls leader with a strong technical background in automation, electrical control systems, and project delivery. You are a collaborative leader who enjoys working alongside others and building strong relationships across multiple trades, disciplines, and customer teams. You have a proven ability to lead and develop high-performing technical teams while managing projects from estimating through commissioning. You are confident providing technical guidance, making sound decisions, and fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. Above all, you lead by example, support those around you, and are committed to delivering exceptional results for both your team and your customers.
Our Must Haves- Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, Systems Design, or a related discipline;Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in industrial controls, automation, or electrical engineering;Previous experience in a formal people management role leading, coaching, and developing engineering or technical teams of three (3) or more employees;Strong experience estimating industrial controls and automation projects;Extensive knowledge of PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Omron), HMIs, SCADA systems, industrial networking, and electrical control systems;Experience with AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar electrical design software;Experience supporting FAT, SAT, startup, and commissioning activities;Strong communication, leadership, project management, and problem-solving skills;Experience in manufacturing, food processing, forestry, mining, utilities, or industrial processing environments is considered an asset.
- Salary: $125,000 to $140,000 per year
