Position Summary
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing company vehicles, machinery, equipment, buildings, barns, feed storage facilities, and grounds. The position works closely with supervisors across various locations to ensure critical systems and equipment remain operational while supporting facility construction, renovation, and maintenance projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance and repair of tractors, farm equipment, vehicles, machinery, and facility systems.
- Inspect equipment and communicate routine maintenance needs to management.
- Troubleshoot and repair damaged equipment and facility components.
- Assist with maintenance of feed storage, preparation, and delivery equipment.
- Support the operation and maintenance of water systems, delivery lines, and watering equipment.
- Maintain company buildings, barns, offices, grounds, fences, gates, and rental properties.
- Monitor and support facility security through regular inspection of fences and access points.
- Assist with the maintenance of mechanical and passive ventilation systems in livestock facilities.
- Manage and maintain generators and backup power systems.
- Support construction, renovation, and facility improvement projects.
- Fabricate gates, posts, breeding boxes, and other custom equipment as needed.
- Perform snow removal, ice treatment, lawn care, pond maintenance, and other groundskeeping activities.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in an organized and safe condition.
- Participate in special projects and additional duties as assigned.
Schedule & Travel
This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Regular attendance is expected according to the schedule established by the supervisor. Overtime may be required based on operational needs and seasonal demands and may be given with limited notice.
Work is performed primarily at Select Sires facilities throughout the Plain City area. Occasional travel between company locations and properties is required. Employees may also be required to support emergency repairs, weather-related response efforts, and after-hours maintenance activities.
Required:
- Knowledge of mechanical maintenance, equipment repair, and facility upkeep.
- Ability to safely operate hand and power tools.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to lift, carry, climb, bend, and work in a physically demanding environment.
- Commitment to workplace safety and following established procedures.
Preferred:
- Experience with agricultural equipment, farm operations, or industrial maintenance.
- Welding, fabrication, construction, or remodeling experience.
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- State of Ohio Class I or Class A Water License.
- Certification to purchase and handle refrigerants (Freon).
Work Environment
This position works in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments and may be exposed to:
- Livestock and agricultural settings
- Machinery and moving equipment
- Heights, including work on silos and elevated structures
- Weather extremes
- Dust, noise, and potentially hazardous materials
