Job Description:
We are looking to appoint a new General Manager in Spain, reporting directly to the Managing Director, English Language Teaching, and serving as a key member of the ELT Senior Leadership Team with a significant influence on the future success of both Spain and the wider division.
The role is responsible for developing and implementing the business strategy for OUP España, aligned with the ELT divisional strategy, and for delivering sustainable growth. The successful candidate will have full accountability for the branch P&L, while leading a highly capable team and ensuring Oxford remains strongly positioned in a dynamic and evolving education market.
Working closely with colleagues across the ELT division and Group Functions, the General Manager will shape strategic priorities, build key external relationships, drive innovation and digital transformation, and identify new growth opportunities across products, services, partnerships and assessment solutions. They will be instrumental in scanning the market, identifying opportunities, managing risks and ensuring the highest standards of ethical conduct.
The main responsibilities will be:- Monitor market circumstances and assess risks and opportunities for OUP España, evolving strategy in line with divisional and Group priorities.
- Develop and deliver a clear business vision, strategy and five-year plan to ensure sustainable growth.
- Take full accountability for branch revenue, profitability, investment decisions and overall business performance.
- Drive sustainable revenue growth by expanding Oxford's presence in assessment, partnerships, digital services and integrated learning solutions, broadening the revenue base beyond traditional curriculum cycles.
- Oversee the development and execution of effective sales and commercial strategies, identifying new market segments and opportunities for growth.
- Lead innovation and digital transformation initiatives, ensuring that emerging technologies, including AI, are used to enhance customer value, operational effectiveness and business performance.
- Ensure effective marketing of OUP products and services and maintain a strong customer-centric approach across the business.
- Develop, empower and engage the OUP España team, creating a culture of collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement, and ensuring a positive and inclusive working environment.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key external stakeholders, including educational institutions, distributors, partners and industry bodies.
- Ensure OUP España complies fully with OUP governance standards and all relevant legal, financial, regulatory and ethical requirements.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues across the ELT division, Group Functions and the wider organisation, contributing actively to the ELT Senior Leadership Team.
- Experienced senior leader with a track record of operating at divisional board or executive level.
- Demonstrated leadership across commercial and/or functional areas within educational publishing, education technology, assessment, learning services or related education markets.
- Proven ability to develop and execute strategy and drive sustainable business growth.
- Strong commercial acumen, with experience of managing P&Ls and leading significant business development initiatives.
- Ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders across a matrix organisation.
- A trusted and credible leader with a strong record of building external partnerships and customer relationships.
- A people-focused leader who can set direction, develop talent and empower teams to succeed.
- Fluent Spanish and English speaker.
