Pinto Valley is an open-pit copper mine located at the west end of the historic Globe-Miami mining district of central Arizona, approximately 80 miles east of Phoenix. Pinto Valley has been in operation since 1972 and has produced more than four billion pounds of copper. Acquired by Capstone from BHP in 2013, the mine is fully permitted through 2039 and a study is underway to potentially extend the mine life through 2050.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES |
- Work safely and follow all Pinto Valley Mine and MSHA safety guidelines and procedures; stop and report unsafe conditions.
- Follow Company policies and procedures and federal and state regulations, such as MSHA and the state mining department.
- Communicate and work closely with the Mine Technology team, IT Team, Dispatch, and end users.
- Perform PMs, installs, and first-level troubleshooting and repair on technology systems owned by the Mine Department. Including but not limited to: CAT MineStar, Sensemetrics, Pit Radar, Auto-Drill Systems, Earthworks, Remote Mining Systems, Collision Avoidance Systems (CAS/OAS), Network components, and Fatigue Monitoring Systems.
- Help maintain the field network infrastructure (radios, antennas, nodes, cabling) that supports MineStar and other mine technology systems.
- Support maintenance of the VHF 2-way radio system at Pinto Valley alongside the Mine Technology Technician, IT, and Permitting.
- Level 1 troubleshooting of equipment and low-voltage electrical systems.
- Work alongside contractor technicians and vendors (CAT, Empire, and other technology providers) on assigned jobs, escalating issues to the Mine Technology Technician.
- Take part in an on-call rotation to support operations with emergency technology issues.
- Record work completed, parts used, and inventory in SAP; raise parts requests as needed.
- Assist with technology projects pertaining to the mine equipment.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS |
Required
- High school diploma or GED.
- 0–2 years’ experience in electronics, IT, networking, telecommunications, or electrical work; OR a relevant technical diploma/certificate; OR military communications/electronics experience.
- Basic network understanding (IP addressing, switches, wireless).
- Basic low-voltage electrical troubleshooting (multimeter, 12/24V DC systems).
- Working computer skills with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Quick learner with a proactive, safety-first mindset; able to identify problems and work through solutions.
- Clear communicator, able to work with operators, maintenance, IT, and vendors.
- Ability to speak, comprehend, read, and write English fluently.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to take part in an on-call rotation.
Preferred
- Associate degree or technical diploma in electronics, IT, instrumentation, or a related field.
- CompTIA Network+ / A+, FCC GROL, or similar certification.
- Exposure to MineStar or another fleet management system (e.g., Modular, Wenco, Hexagon).
- Experience with VHF/UHF 2-way radio systems.
- Mining or heavy industrial experience.
- Familiarity with SAP and Power BI or other BI tools.
Training Provided
- MSHA Part 48 New Miner training.
- On-the-job training with the Mine Technology Technician, plus vendor training on MineStar and site systems.
- Development path to Mine Technology Technician.
WORK ENVIRONMENT |
- This role is a mixture between office and field/ pit environment.
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time, including walking up and down stairs and across uneven surfaces.
- Must have ability to kneel, crawl, stoop, and squat, occasionally in confined spaces.
- All candidates will be required to complete a pre-employment medical exam, drug and alcohol test, and background check. All positions require a pre-placement physical examination to ensure candidates are fit for duty. Additional training and/or testing may be required. Capstone maintains a drug and alcohol-free workplace.
