**This is a hybrid position. Qualified candidates must reside within one-hour of a Family Health Center location**

JOB SUMMARY

The Infection Control and Safety Manager is responsible for the coordination, implementation, and evaluation of the organization’s infection control and safety program. Working as part of the Risk Management and Safety team, this role ensures compliance with regulatory standards and supports a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors. The Manager collaborates with cross-functional departments on matters related to exposure prevention, infectious disease control, sharps injury, instrument processing and sterilization, general safety, and the care environment. This individual also contributes to organizational goals by supporting continuous improvement initiatives and promoting a culture of safety across all levels of the organization.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Administers the organization’s Bloodborne Pathogen Plan, ensuring policies and procedures comply with CDC, OSHA, and accreditation agency requirements.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to identify and implement infection prevention strategies that support safe practices and regulatory compliance; educates staff on best practices related to infection control.
  • Reviews infection prevention and safety policies, procedures, and protocols, and implements updates to maintain compliance and effectiveness.
  • Conducts annual infection prevention and risk assessments and establishes goals and priorities to address identified risks.
  • Develops and delivers infection prevention and safety education programs based on current standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational needs.
  • Establishes processes to ensure personnel understand and demonstrate competency in infection prevention and safety practices, fostering a culture of safety throughout the organization.
  • Conducts environmental inspections and observes staff practices to assess compliance with established infection prevention and safety standards and identify potential hazards.
  • Provides staff education on emergency management protocols, hazardous waste handling, and general workplace safety procedures.
  • Monitors decontamination and sterilization practices to ensure adherence to established guidelines and regulatory procedures.
  • Provides consultation and oversight for the safe handling and disposal of hazardous materials, including chemical and infectious waste, in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Conducts ergonomic assessments to identify and mitigate workplace physical risk factors and provides targeted ergonomic education and training.
  • Conducts workplace hazard analyses and develops mitigation strategies to reduce the risk of illness or injury to employees and visitors.
  • Maintains strict adherence to scheduled work hours with regular and reliable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


    • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Associate’s degree in a healthcare-related field such as infection prevention and control, nursing, environmental health, or a related field and a minimum of five years of relevant experience. An additional five years’ of relevant work experience may be substituted for an associate’s degree.
  • Knowledge of health care regulations including CDC, OSHA, and FDA.
  • Proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office and web-based research experience.
  • Preferred: Healthcare process improvement experience specifically in infection control and safety. Demonstrated experience in training and development of staff.


    • CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES

  • Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License required with an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR), per FHC guidelines.
  • Completion of an ergonomics assessment training/certification program within one year of hire, with demonstrated competency in conducting ergonomic assessments, identifying workplace physical risk factors, and recommending appropriate corrective measures.
  • Preferred: Certification in Infection Control (CIC) awarded by the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation.
