Group Psychotherapist - Rochester

Athena Mental Health is a New York State mental health-approved provider of community mental health services for children, adults, and families with behavioral and emotional challenges. The Group Psychotherapist will lead and facilitate therapeutic group sessions, using evidence-based approaches to
support clients’ mental health and interpersonal growth. This role involves creating a safe, inclusive space,
collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and contributing to treatment planning and crisis intervention as needed.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop and facilitate psychotherapy groups tailored to client needs, including CBT, DBT, trauma-focused,
    psychoeducational, and support groups.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to integrate group goals into clients' comprehensive treatment
    plans.
  • Implement evidence-based interventions to promote mental health, coping skills, and interpersonal
    effectiveness.
  • Monitor group dynamics and adjust interventions to enhance engagement and therapeutic outcomes.
  • Provide crisis intervention and safety planning as needed.
  • Conduct clinical intakes and complete assessments as needed, particularly while group census is
    developing.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with OMH regulations and clinic policies.
  • Participate in case conferences, supervision, and ongoing professional development.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
  • Must have a master's degree in Social Work or a related mental health field and have an active license as a
    LMHC, LCSW, LMSW, or LMFT.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience providing psychotherapy, with a strong emphasis on group therapy.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and facilitate therapy groups for diverse populations, including children,
    adolescents, or adults, based on the organization's needs.
  • Proficiency in evidence-based modalities such as CBT, DBT, ACT, or other group therapy frameworks.
  • Works effectively with multidisciplinary teams, providing case consultations and progress updates.
  • Experience in documenting sessions, treatment planning, and maintaining compliance with ethical and
    legal standards.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is highly preferred

Working Conditions
This position will be located at the Rochester office at 1299 Portland Avenue, Suite1, Rochester, NY 14621 or Remote. This is a professional work environment where a computer, desk, chair and office supplies will be provided onsite at each of our offices.

successfully perform the essential functions of the role above.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to hear and speak on the phone or
computer throughout the day, stand and sit for an extended period, and be able to write and answer emails in
addition to carrying objects no greater than 35 pounds, when needed. This position might require travel to our
mental health clinics in the Bronx and Manhattan.
