Irrigation Specilaist in Estero, Florida at Spring Run Golf Club

POSITION SUMMARY

The Irrigation Specialist leads, organizes, and directs the Club’s irrigation function in a safe, effective, and efficient manner to support superior playing conditions, safe working surroundings, continuous employee development, and a strong team environment.

This position is responsible for directing the daily activities of irrigation technicians, coordinating and setting nightly irrigation through the irrigation computer, maintaining accurate irrigation records, and supporting the proper care and operation of pump stations and fertigation equipment.

The Irrigation Specialist works closely with the Golf Course Superintendent, Assistant Golf Course Superintendent, IPM Technician, and Equipment Manager to ensure irrigation activities support department goals, environmental responsibility, operational efficiency, and member service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Irrigation System Operations

• Lead, organize, and direct all aspects of the irrigation department in a safe, effective, and efficient manner.

• Coordinate and set water through the irrigation computer on a nightly basis.

• Remain current on irrigation techniques and their application to personal safety, environmental safety, material costs, proper application practices, pump-station care, and basic fertigation equipment maintenance.

• Maintain accurate written documentation of irrigation use and related activity.

• Follow work-order requirements to ensure accurate records of irrigation and related department activities.

Team Leadership & Department Coordination

• Direct the daily activities of irrigation technicians and guide staff toward higher standards of performance through established systems and procedures.

• Coordinate closely with the Golf Course Superintendent, Assistant Golf Course Superintendent, IPM Technician, and Equipment Manager.

• Provide timely information, reporting, and communication to support department and Club goals.

• Support continuous employee development, teamwork, and a professional service culture.

• Attend meetings and training sessions as appropriately directed.

Budgeting, Efficiency & Cost Control

• Create, monitor, and adhere to established budget guidelines for irrigation operations.

• Identify and recommend solutions that improve operating efficiency and generate cost savings for the irrigation function.

• Monitor irrigation practices and resource use with attention to efficiency, proper application, and cost of materials.

Safety, Environmental Responsibility & Service

• Direct life/safety procedures when necessary and require safe work practices from staff.

• Support all IPM safety programs and required training, and reinforce their importance throughout the department.

• Maintain a clean, healthy, and safe working environment in accordance with department standards, OSHA requirements, and applicable local authority standards.

• Support the Audubon International Cooperative Sanctuary program and the department’s environmental responsibility and cleanliness standards.

• Assist in the development and implementation of Spring Run’s customer service program and respond proactively to the needs of members and staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or GED preferred.

• Previous golf course experience required.

• Flexible availability required, including weekends and holidays. May be required to return to the job site at unusual hours during emergency situations.

Skills & Competencies

• Working knowledge of irrigation techniques, proper application practices, pump stations, and basic fertigation equipment maintenance.

• Ability to coordinate and set irrigation through a computer-based irrigation system.

• Strong leadership skills with the ability to direct daily work activities and gain the cooperation and respect of staff and peers.

• Exceptional listening and communication skills, particularly as they relate to training, learning, and accurate irrigation use and application.

• Ability to handle and prioritize multiple responsibilities simultaneously.

• Strong organizational and time management skills with careful attention to documentation and follow-through.

• Ability to identify opportunities for increased efficiency and cost savings.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Prolonged standing and walking throughout the workday.

• Frequent bending and stooping associated with irrigation inspection, maintenance, and field work.

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
