Job Description
GENERAL SUMMARY
The Network Deployment Technician performs telecommunications site and tower construction, installation, and field maintenance in support of Rise Broadband's wireless network builds. This role also supports network operations equipment and locations, including provisioning, activation, and basic troubleshooting. The Technician works under the direction of the Network Deployment Manager and partners with the Network Operations and Engineering teams to keep builds on schedule and the network running smoothly.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Perform site and tower construction, including climbing towers and installing electrical wiring, cabling, and communications equipment.
- Install wireless and ground equipment on new and existing communications towers; perform rigging work as directed.
- Perform tower modifications, inspections, inventories, and audits to meet project specifications.
- Prepare for installations by determining methods and assembling the required tools, equipment, and materials.
- Inspect cable and electrical equipment to ensure proper site operation; complete full system installation and troubleshooting.
- Perform provisioning and activation of new and augmented network equipment following Rise standards.
- Troubleshoot WAN performance and capacity issues; use network tools to identify and resolve system problems; perform WAN configuration backups.
- Support wireless RF troubleshooting and load balancing.
- Maintain network asset inventory and related documentation.
- Provide remote hands support to the Network Operations Core team and Engineering as needed.
- Maintain and submit detailed project activity logs; notify site owners and managers of work performed on their property.
- Communicate with other departments on issues affecting operations, including outages, service disruptions, and repeated customer complaints.
- Support, enforce, and adhere to Company and OSHA safety policies and procedures.
Some evening, weekend, and travel work is required to support construction schedules and network needs.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESNo direct reports.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or trade certification a plus.
- One or more years of experience in telecommunications construction or network field operations preferred.
- Certified Climber/Rescuer, or ability to obtain certification within a defined period.
- Basic electrical knowledge and understanding of electrical codes for communications cabling.
- Basic understanding of IP routers, Layer 2/3 switches, and firewalls; familiarity with routing protocols such as EIGRP and OSPF is a plus.
- Basic familiarity with Cisco IOS; progress toward CCNA certification preferred.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and carry out instructions from project plans and prints.
- Familiar with crane signals and gin pole operations; ability to use a transit, compass, and set azimuths and down tilts.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and basic network management or monitoring tools.
- Valid driver's license with reliable transportation for travel within the Company's footprint.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; customer service oriented.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with Company and OSHA safety requirements.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, sit, use hands to handle tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to frequently climb ladders and communication towers and work safely in an elevated position up to five hundred (500) feet. The employee must be able to lift, carry, and maneuver objects of one hundred (100) pounds or more. Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work environment: this role requires the ability to work safely in a field environment, including frequent exposure to adverse weather, with occasional office-based work. Daily travel within the Company's geographical footprint is required.
