Nurse Clinician—Wound/Ostomy
Summary: Under nursing administration and in clinical collaboration with a physician, incumbents of this class provide comprehensive primary care in the area of Wound/Ostomy. This will include health education, preventive medicine, communicable diseases, and education, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Incumbents provide primary medical care consisting of the necessary examinations, assessments, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Supervision may be a function of this class, and instructional guidance is provided to nursing and other healthcare professionals in the area of expertise. Does related work as required.
Training and Experience: Possession of a valid license and current registration issued by the New York State Department of Education, as a registered professional nurse and three years of professional nursing experience where the primary function of the position was nursing in a hospital or health care agency, two years of which must have been in the area of specialization. A bachelor’s or master’s degree* in nursing. Certified in Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.
Must be enrolled in a WOCN certification program and successfully complete certification within one year of hire date.
**Preferred: Previous Wound/Ostomy experience and knowledgeable in conducting NDNQI Pressure Injury Prevalence Surveys. Board Certification in Wound and Ostomy by the WOC Nurse Certification Board.
