Xray/CT Technologist in Kearney, Nebraska at Bryan Health

Performs a variety of imaging procedures under the supervision of a qualified physician and is responsible for patient safety protocols. Uses X-ray and CT technology and techniques to assist in the diagnosis of patient medical problems for patients throughout the age continuum.

1. *Performs all types of X-ray and CT studies to include diagnostic and interventional procedures, practices radiation safety for patients, staff and self.

1. *Uses sterile technique as required.

1. Performs venipuncture.

1. *Competently operates all X-ray/CT equipment and support systems in include HIS, RIS, Scheduling System, PACS, teleradiology, performs and evaluates images for technical quality.

1. Cleans, disinfects and maintains equipment as necessary; notifies manager of equipment problems and calls appropriate service vendors as needed.

1. *Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and use of equipment to minimize hazards of electric shock, burns and extraneous radiation or radiofrequency burns to patients.

1. *Determines most suitable anatomical posture and positions.

1. Performs regular warm-up sequences on the CT scanner to prolong the life of the X-ray tubes.

1. *Analyzes patient histories and completes screenings for metal, implants and devices.

1. Keeps work area properly supplied.

1. Assesses patient pain interfering with imaging procedure and makes appropriate physician contact for intervention.

1. Coordinates exams within the department and with other departments to provide expedient and complete care.

1. Handles telephone calls for scheduling, coordination or questions with courtesy and accuracy.

1. *Practices medical and surgical aseptic procedures.

1. Participates in the department’s quality improvement plan as required.

1. Keeps work area properly supplied.

1. Assists with new employee training and student clinical education as directed.

1. Accesses and administers drugs and biologicals that are pertinent to essential job functions in accordance with Medical Center procedures.

1. Performs all quality control (QC) checks, as prescribed and maintains accurate QC logs, service records, etc.

1. *Uses computerized tomography and radiographic equipment to capture diagnostic images of patients’ internal organs and tissues.

1. Assesses the patient’s heart rate and calls RN if intervention is needed to acquire quality images.

1. Transports patients by bed or wheelchair.

1. Assists the Radiologist during Interventional procedures.

1. Performs highest quality imaging consistent with prescribed examination, documents, and deviation.

1. Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric, and general population.

1. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.

1. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduate from a school of radiologic technology with current certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required. Valid state of Nebraska Medical Radiographer license required. Certification in CT preferred.

OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS

Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.
