Examine, treat and maintain the teeth, gums and other hard and soft tissues of the mouth and surrounding structures. Diagnoses and treats diseases, injuries, and malformations of teeth and gums, and related oral structures. Instruct patients about good oral health practices in order to prevent gum disease and tooth loss.
Performs specific job responsibilities:
- Promotes Carilion Clinics Culture of Excellence and quality service through team work, respectful communication, maintenance of a professional environment, partnership with those we serve, and anticipation of patient/customer needs.
- Examines patient to determine nature of condition.
- Cleans teeth and provides preventive dental services to patient such as applications of fluoride and sealants to teeth.
- Restores teeth as needed, both simple and surgical.
- Provides appropriate replacement for missing teeth.
- Educates patient in oral and dental hygiene.
Education: Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) or Doctor of Medical Dentistry (D.M.D.).
Experience: Minimum of one year post graduate dental residency (G.P.R. or A.E.G.D).
Licensure, certification, and/or registration: State of Virginia Dental License; BLS, ACLS, and PALS if working with Pediatric patients.
Other Minimum Qualifications: The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and depth perception.
