Essential Functions
- Ensure Facilities are in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including environmental permitting requirements.
- Determine the nature of code violations and actions to be taken, and issue written notices of violation; participate in enforcement hearings as necessary.
- Examine permits, licenses, applications, and records to ensure compliance with licensing requirements.
- Prepare, organize, and maintain inspection records.
- Interview individuals to determine the nature of suspected violations and to obtain evidence of violations.

- Monitor follow-up actions in cases where violations were found, and review compliance monitoring reports.
- Investigate complaints and suspected violations regarding illegal dumping, pollution, product quality, or labeling laws.
- Inspect waste handling disposal and systems for conformance to federal, state, or local regulations.
- Inform individuals and groups of pollution control regulations and inspection findings and explain how problems can be corrected.
- Determine sampling locations and methods, collect water or wastewater (including stormwater) samples for analysis, and preserve samples using appropriate methods.
- Verify that hazardous chemicals are handled, stored, and disposed of in accordance with regulations.
- Research and keep informed of pertinent information and developments in areas such as EPA and California laws and regulations.
- Determine which sites and violation reports to investigate, and coordinate compliance and enforcement activities with other government agencies.
- Observe and record field conditions, gathering, interpreting, and reporting data such as flow meter readings and chemical levels.
- Learn and observe proper safety precautions, rules, regulations, and practices so that unsafe conditions can be recognized, and proper safety protocols implemented.
- Inform health professionals, property owners, and the public about harmful properties and related problems of water pollution and contaminated wastewater.
- Create and upload compliance documents such as annual emissions reports, stormwater sampling reports, and hazardous materials inventories to appropriate regulatory systems.
- Work with plant managers on compliance items and train facility personnel on relevant environmental compliance requirements.
- Ensure conformance of Above Ground and Underground Storage Tanks. Become licensed as a Designated Underground Storage Tank Operator and perform monthly and annual monitoring duties.
- Compile reports for TRI- Form R reporting, AER emission submittals, CERS annual inventory reporting, DTSC reporting and SMARTS database submittals.
- Ensure proper safety precautions, rules, regulations, and practices are followed.
- Evaluate label information for accuracy and conformance to regulatory requirements.
- Examine documents for completeness, accuracy, or conformance to standards.
- Inspect facilities or equipment for regulatory compliance.
- Inspect products or systems for regulatory compliance.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. General days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, hours to be determined. Not eligible for remote work. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel Required: Estimated 25%
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in environmental sciences or relevant
- 10+ years of relevant experience in the environmental management or consulting.
- Familiarity with CERS, SMARTS, AER systems, underground storage tank (UST) compliance, and air toxics (AST)
- Experience with environmental reporting and regulatory systems.
