About This Position

About the Role:

This Athletics Graduate Assistant position will be responsible for assisting the sport head coach in all areas. The position includes full tuition remission and fees, a stipend and free on-campus housing (if available).

Specific responsibilities include but may no be limited to:

  • Daily Office Work
  • Assist coaches with practices
  • Coaching during events and tournaments
  • Provide safety for the students, coaches, facilities and equipment while conducting practices, activities, and competitions.
  • Assist with the cultural environment of the team, support during team bonding activities and help foster a positive team mentality.
  • Understand and implicate NAIA, GPAC, KCAC and USBC rules.
  • Drive, if needed, rented and owned vans to events.
  • Attend departmental meetings as needed
  • Assist with recruitment measures and practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Admitted to the Briar Cliff University graduate school program.
  • Experience either playing collegiate bowling or coaching at the high school or college level is preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s license is required.
  • Successfully complete a background check.

    Essential Skills:

    LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization. .

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

    REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exits. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
