Paramedic
Emergency Medical Services
Full-Time (Two 24-hour shifts per week)

Job Summary:
Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care of the pre-hospital patients and patients requiring inter-facility transportation. Care is delivered in accordance with MRHC policies, EMS Department policies, procedures, and protocols, and in accordance with the Mississippi Department of Emergency Medical Services, laws, rules, and regulations. Demonstrates critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Maintains competency in critical skills for age specific groups; neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. Maintains current knowledge and trends concerning pre-hospital emergency medical care.

Emergency Medical Services is considered to be a high-risk job which requires a clear mind, a strong will, a high degree of nerve and an acceptance of several possible risk factors. There may be exposure, from time to time, to corrosive chemicals, poisonous or hazardous chemicals, infectious agents or disease, handling of unpleasant and/or hazardous materials, blood or other body fluids or secretions. There is also considerable risk of possible bodily injury due to ambulance accidents, accidents which might occur working around machinery or other obstacles or hazards at the scene or from patient's family or bystander assaults.

Education Requirements:
High school diploma or GED required. Graduate of an Accredited Paramedic Program required. Graduate of an accredited program in healthcare.

Certification/Licensure Requirements:
Must be a Registered National Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic. State Emergency Medical Technician in Mississippi. Must have a valid driver's license. Must have a valid EMS driver's license issued by the Emergency Medical Services Division of the State Board of Health. Maintain current certifications in BLS, ACLS, PALS, and PHTLS.

Experience:
Must be at least 21 years of age.

Language/Communication Skills:
English required. Multilingual capabilities enhance the ability to perform this job. Must have the ability to speak effectively and professionally to all staff, management, and all outside individuals at all levels from elementary to professional.

Mathematical Skills:
Skills in adding and subtracting two-digit numbers. Skill in computing ratios, rates and percentages.

Reasoning Ability:
Must have the ability to apply non-judgmental reasoning capabilities whenever necessary when dealing with patients, visitors, and staff. Critical thinking skills are a must. Must have reasonable reflective thinking focused on deciding what to believe or do. Must possess purposeful, self-regulatory judgment which results in interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and inference, as well as explanation of the evidential, methodological, criteriological, or contextual considerations upon which that judgment is based.
