About This Position

PUMP SHOP TECHNICIAN

Job Summary:

The Pump Shop Technician is responsible for cleaning, inspecting, repairing, and rebuilding downhole pumps and related oilfield equipment in the pump shop. This position supports field operations by ensuring pumps, valves, and associated components are properly maintained, rebuilt, and prepared for deployment. The technician also assists with inventory handling, equipment organization, and maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient shop environment.

Essential Duties:

  • Disassemble, clean, inspect, and rebuild downhole pumps using appropriate hand and power tools.
  • Wash, inspect, and prepare pump components to ensure proper function and quality standards before deployment.
  • Load, unload, and move tubing, rods, pumps, and equipment within the shop using proper material-handling practices.
  • Repair tubing anchors and perform additional equipment repairs as assigned by the Pump Shop Supervisor.
  • Inspect repaired equipment and components to verify compliance with quality and operational standards.
  • Maintain accurate repair tickets, part identification tags, and documentation for equipment serviced in the shop.
  • Organize and store tools, parts, and materials to maintain an orderly and efficient work area.
  • Assist with inventory handling by receiving, counting, labeling, and staging parts or finished products.
  • Operate shop equipment and machinery safely while observing performance and reporting any issues.
  • Maintain cleanliness of shop equipment, work areas, and tools through routine cleaning and lubrication.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and complete required safety training such as H2S, CPR, and other applicable programs.
  • This position is expected to maintain strict confidentiality of company information, employee records, and any sensitive data encountered in the course of work.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand and power tools.
  • Ability to disassemble, inspect, and reassemble mechanical components.
  • Knowledge of oilfield pumps, valves, and related equipment preferred.
  • Ability to read and follow repair instructions, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure quality repairs and accurate documentation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining productivity and accountability.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous mechanical, shop, or oilfield equipment experience preferred but not required.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience is also acceptable.

Working Conditions:

  • Work will be primarily in the shop environment.
  • Exposure to varying conditions including heat, cold, dust, and noise.
  • PPE required in field settings.
  • Occasional extended hours may be required based on operational needs.
  • Physical activity including standing, squatting/kneeling, walking, bending, climbing, and lifting (constant up to 30 pounds, occasional of 31–100 pounds) may be required.
