Veterinary Specialists of Birmingham is looking for a Weekend Veterinary Technician Supervisor to join our team!

Compensation: $24.00-$26.00/hourly, based on experience + additional weekend shift differential on Saturdays and Sundays

Schedule: Fridays - Sundays, 7:45am - 8:00pm

Job Description: The Veterinary Technician Supervisor is responsible for training staff, supervises and assists technicians to plan, supervising the team leads, assists and coordinates making the schedule for their department, coordinates and meets with other supervisors and team leads, coordinates and performs a variety of duties concerned with animal health and client education, and to promote greater efficiency by relieving veterinarians of technical work and administrative detail. This position encompasses all the duties of the veterinary technician.

Education and Experience:

  • Licensed Technician preferred
  • Prior experience in a veterinary practice that meets the required veterinary technician skillset listed under the primary job responsibilities of this role.

Tasks/primary job responsibilities:

  • Train, supervise and assist technicians in their performance of a variety of technical and client education duties that facilitate the work of the practitioners and managers. Provide guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance. Conduct timely performance evaluations, mediate interpersonal problems, and address concerns. Make disciplinary decisions and hold accountability for your team and the hospital. Report any issues and disciplinary actions to the Hospital manager promptly. Accountability can include but is not limited to actions concerning personnel matters, disciplinary action, attitude, general appearance and follow-through.
  • Ensure that the hospital and employees are in compliance with federal and state animal health laws and regulations including OSHA and DEA. Inform the Hospital Manager of any regulatory issues in a timely manner.
  • Create employee schedules that align with doctor and team needs while monitoring overtime and payroll costs. Make arrangements to cover shifts if necessary. Evaluate the schedule for the day to anticipate patient arrivals and efficiently plan tasks around that day’s schedule. Anticipate what will be needed for appointments and do everything you can to set up and assist the Doctors.
  • Participate in the production of monthly departmental meetings and in coordination with the Hospital Manager, schedule in-service meetings as deemed appropriate and necessary. Assist in maintaining inventory of pharmaceuticals, equipment, and supplies.
  • Proficiency and understanding of all basic Emergency and ICU veterinary knowledge, including restraint, diagnostic imaging, phlebotomy, venipuncture, anesthesia, drug calculations, laboratory equipment and procedures, etc.
  • Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus.
