About This Position

Telemetry Technician

Salary Range: $18.99 - $25.53

Pay rates are determined based on experience and internal equity.

Position Summary:

  • This position reports to the Manager or Director of CCU.
  • Monitors cardiac rhythms of patients on telemetric equipment.
  • Interprets basic cardiac rhythms, common dysrhythmia and monitor mechanical malfunctions.
  • Performs discharge information, and breakdown of charts for CCU patients.
  • Remains flexible to changing systems.
  • Answers the telephone and coordinate nurses’ station activity.
  • Demonstrates quality and effectiveness in work habits.
  • Treats patients, families, visitors, peers and physicians with consideration and respect.
  • Communicates concerns appropriately using the established chain of command.
  • Must work well under stress or tight deadlines.
  • Must work well with supervisors, co-worker, patients, family members, visitors, and Physicians.
  • Demonstrates ability to read EKG/Monitor strips and is responsible to communicate to RNs the patients EKG readings throughout the assigned shift.

District Responsibility

  • Maintains all principles of confidentiality according to District policy and as required by State and Federal agencies.
  • Follows guidelines and practices identified in the Employee Handbook.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement activities within the unit.
  • Completes hospital-wide skills criteria annually.
  • Complies with annual PPD testing.
  • Supports the District Mission, Vision and Values Statements.
  • Demonstrate Respect, Professionalism and Courtesy to all patients, visitors, other providers and coworkers, as delineated in the LVMC “Commitment to Care”.
  • Constantly use C-I-CARE principles when communicating with others.

Position Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates proficiency in all required areas for patients in the CCU after appropriate orientation to the area.
  • Maintains ability to perform competencies as assigned and completes renewal of competencies annually.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Essential Functions:

  • Accurately monitors and interprets cardiac rhythms of patients on telemetric equipment. Informs licensed caregiver of dysrhythmia as they occur.
  • Maintains integrity of the telemetry system. Reports all malfunctions or needed adjustments of equipment.
  • Documents all EKG rhythm strips of patient’s room number, name, date, and the time the strip was obtained.
  • Ensures that all alarms are on at all times with the appropriate parameters.
  • Maintains and updates knowledge of basic arrhythmias.
  • The ability to be able to walk, stand or sit for long periods of time.
  • The ability to use computer keyboard and telephone.
  • The ability to have fine motor control of hands and fingers.
  • The ability to transfer patients.
  • The ability to maintain required certifications.
  • The ability to be supervised.
  • The ability to work as a Team member.
  • The ability to have positive personal interactions with staff, patients, and visitors.
  • May perform clerical and other duties as requested.

Position Qualifications:

  • Education: High School education or equivalent.
  • Experience: Acute care Ward Clerk experience, prior telemetry monitor tech experience, CNA license, EMT or Paramedic preferred.
  • Certifications: EKG course (in person or online) to be completed prior to completion of orientation. BLS certification required from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Skills/Ability: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent computer skills. Exhibits the ability to organize work assignments and follow through with accuracy. Exercises good judgment, demonstrates initiative, emotional stability, tact and poise.
