The Tides Inn is a beloved waterfront, luxury resort nestled on Carter’s Creek in Irvington, Virginia. The Tides features 70 luxurious accommodations, tennis and pickleball courts, wellness treatments, a working farm, Markers Space (for artistic activities), its own marina and two distinct restaurants, Salt & Meadow Restaurant and Fish Hawk Oyster Bar. As it has evolved, the Tides Inn is becoming more widely recognized for its elite programming, culinary experiences, commitment to environmental stewardship, and world-class hospitality.

Job Summary

The Bartender at the Tides Inn plays a key role in shaping the guest experience across our two full-service restaurants and banquet operations of up to 200 guests. This hands-on professional brings artistry, precision, and heartfelt hospitality to every shift, delivering Forbes 5-Star service regardless of venue or volume. This role is ideal for a bartender who values craft, thrives in both intimate and high-energy service environments, and finds joy in creating cocktails that honor seasonality and the Chesapeake region.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

    Regular and Reliable Attendance is an essential function of this role.
Guest Experience Guided by the Chesapeake Spirit

    Provide warm, attentive, and intuitive service aligned with Forbes 5-Star standards. Build genuine guest connections while delivering a polished bar experience. Maintain an inviting bar atmosphere through hospitality, conversation, and professionalism.
Craftsmanship & Beverage Excellence

    Execute cocktails with precision, consistency, and artistry across two dining outlets and banquet bars. Contribute to the creation and execution of four seasonal cocktail menus with beverage leadership. Maintain strong mise en place, batch production, ingredient preparation, and garnish presentation standards. Demonstrate strong knowledge of spirits, wine, beer, and mixology techniques.
Operational Excellence Across Restaurants & Banquets

    Work in two full-service restaurants and support banquet bars for events up to 200 guests. Ensure smooth transitions between restaurant service, high-volume events, and specialty beverage experiences. Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety of bar areas. Participate in BEO meetings and ensure bar activations align with contracts. Assist with setup and breakdown for banquet bars, specialty events, and seasonal experiences.
    Responsible Stewardship & Inventory Management
    Complete accurate end-of-month inventory. Assist with product ordering and par levels aligned with cost control and sustainability goals. Maintain care of equipment, tools, and ingredients with a focus on quality and responsible sourcing. Collaborate with the farm team to source garnishments for the cocktail program.
    Teamwork & Communication
    Collaborate with front-of-house, culinary, and event teams to ensure seamless service. Communicate effectively during pre-shift meetings, event briefings, and menu rollouts. Support a positive team culture through professionalism, cooperation, and kindness. Exemplify The Tides Inn Mission and Values. Perform other duties as assigned.
