About This Position
Job Summary
The Senior Specialist, Production Planning / Material Management plans, schedules, coordinates and/or monitors final approval of products through the complete production cycle to meet production requirements and is responsible for leading the planning, procurement, storage, and distribution of materials to support efficient and reliable operations. This role requires deep expertise in production planning and material management practices, strong analytical capabilities, and the ability to drive process improvements that optimize inventory levels and enhance supply chain performance. The individual will collaborate cross functionally and provide guidance to junior staff while ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and maintain manufacturing execution schedules throughout the planning and execution phases of the manufacturing process.
- Coordinate with internal suppliers, to ensure material and labor is available to meet internal and external customer commitments.
- Prioritize day-to-day activities of the manufacturing and material flow processes, measuring success and failure to the plan, communicate status to program and management.
- Support timely analysis and implementation on Engineering Change Orders.
- Utilize ERP data to identify potential schedule and/or data integrity problems along with metric-based performance.
- Develop and implement material management strategies that align with company goals and objectives.
- Oversee the planning, procurement, storage, and distribution of materials, ensuring timely and cost-effective fulfillment of requirements.
- Monitor inventory levels and implement inventory control measures to minimize excess and obsolete stock.
- Collaborate with procurement, production, and logistics teams to ensure seamless coordination and execution of material management activities.
- Analyze and forecast material requirements based on production schedules, sales forecasts, and customer demand.
- Evaluate suppliers and negotiate contracts to secure the best terms and maintain strong supplier relationships.
- Develop and maintain accurate and up-to-date records of materials inventories, transactions, and forecasts.
- Conduct periodic audits of inventory and material management processes to ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs within the material management function.
- Mentor and support junior team members providing guidance and support to ensure their professional growth and development.
- Provide regular reports and updates to the Supply Chain Manager and senior management on material management activities, performance metrics, and challenges.
REQUIRED CAPABILITIES
- U.S. Citizenship required due to government contract requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain a US Security Clearance.
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong critical thinking and analytical skills with the ability to make timely, well supported decisions.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across all organizational levels.
- High attention to detail and the ability to quickly identify and resolve issues.
- Creative problem-solving capabilities with an openness to new ideas and changing priorities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Ability to work additional hours, evenings and weekends, to support customer needs.
EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in production planning, material management or a related field, with a track record of success in a senior or leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of production planning and material management principles, practices, and systems.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in production planning and material management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to material management.
