About This Position
The Parks & Facilities Assistant Manager performs skilled maintenance, repair, and operational duties to support City facilities, with a primary focus on the MTA Events Center. This position combines hands-on building, preventative maintenance, and equipment repair. It also includes daily facility operations, including ice arena preparation, custodial work, and ensuring safe, functional environments for staff and the public.
As a lead worker, this position takes initiative, ensures quality and safety standards are met, and may provide informal guidance to seasonal or on-call staff. Work is performed with independence within established standards and may require evenings, weekends, and on-call emergency response.
- Perform skilled maintenance and repairs on City facilities, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, roofing, and concrete work.
- Inspect, maintain, and repair facility equipment such as heating/cooling systems, doors, locks, lighting, and mechanical systems.
- Prepare and maintain the ice surface, including resurfacing, edging, painting, and marking as needed.
- Operate and maintain equipment such as ice resurfacer, man lifts, plow trucks, drain cleaning equipment, and small power tools.
- Conduct custodial work including sweeping, mopping, restroom cleaning, trash removal, and snow removal from walkways and entrances.
- Operate skate sharpener and perform minor service of facility machinery, tools, and arena equipment.
- Assist with facility operations such as cash handling, balancing tills, preparing reports, and ordering supplies.
- Manage and complete outdoor Parks projects, including, but not limited to installing playground equipment, landscaping, brush clearing, etc.
- Monitor work practices to ensure compliance with building codes, safety standards, and facility rules.
- Serve as a point of contact for inspectors, vendors, and contractors as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Parks and Facility Manager.

- Knowledge of ice arena operations and ability to obtain certifications or licenses related to refrigerant systems (R-22) and pesticide application, if required.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel).
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple projects efficiently.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and set a standard for quality and safe work practices.
- Effective communication and customer service skills for working with the public, staff, and contractors.
- Reliability in meeting attendance and scheduling requirements, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
