Job Description
Hyperbaric Chamber Technician
|
Job Summary |
The Hyperbaric Chamber Technician administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients as prescribed by the Provider. Performs duties as is appropriate for the facility and is responsible for the safe and effective operation of the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support systems. The Hyperbaric Technician provides a high quality and safe standard for patient care. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements |
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Obtain Certified Hyperbaric Technologist certification through the National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology (NBDHMT) within 1 year of hire
- Successful completion of a 40-hour introductory hyperbaric medicine course within 1 year of hire (provided by facility)
- Obtain one of the following:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) within 3 months (90 days) of hire date
- Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association (AHA) within 3 months (90 days) of hire date
- Be certified and/or licensed in one of the following vocations:
- Respiratory Therapist
- EMT
- Paramedic
- LPN
- Medical Assistant
- Military Corpsman
- Diving Medical Technician

Preferred Job Requirements |
- Two (2) plus years working in the medical field as a CHT, EMT-B, Paramedic or LPN.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities |
- Knowledge of healthcare policies, and governmental regulations, pertinent to the department.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively communicate with patients, co-workers, managers, Hospital Administration, providers, consultants, business associates and regulatory agencies presenting a professional image as a representative of Marion General Hospital.
- Interpersonal skills necessary in order to carry out duties in a professional manner.
- Problem solve, multiptask in a fast-paced setting and work well in a team envronment.
- Developed computer skills and the ability to learn and proficiently perform patient care applications, echarting, and other standard applications related to the department operations and job function.
- Strong customer service skills, with special emphasis on patient centered care.
- Ability to manage multiple issues simultaneously and appropriately prioritize based on patient needs.
- Ability to be discreet and protect the integrity of any confidential matter or information encountered during the performance of job duties.

Working Conditions |
- Typical emergency management clinical environment with frequent standing and walking.
- Work may be subject to interruptions.
- Risk of occupational exposure to blood and other potentially infectious, electrical and radiation hazards.
- Works with protected health information.
- Ability to work any shift, occasional extended hours, holidays and/or weekends based on the needs of the department.

Physical and Mental Activities, Tools and Equipment |
- Standing, walking, stooping, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling to provide patient care and to utilize patient care devices necessary to perform duties in a safe manner.
- Use of computer and other standard office equipment.
- Uses patient care tools and equipment as they relate to area.
