Job Overview:

RWJBarnabas Health is looking to add a qualified Certified Medical Assistant in Somerville, NJ. The Certified Medical Assistant will perform routine clinical and clerical tasks for medical oncology, surgical oncology and other related clinics at the Steeplechase Cancer Center. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs, medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, and assisting with minor procedures as directed by a physician or health practitioner.


Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Medical Assistant Certification required from one of the following recognized organizations prior to hire: NHA, NCCT, AMT, AAMA, NCMA, AMCA, NAHP
  • BLS Certification approved by AHA
  • Prior relevant experience and or training or equivalent combination of education and experience

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • CMA Certification
  • BLS Certification

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Part-Time Day Shift, 24 hours/week

Essential Functions:

  • Creates and maintains health record information, files and organizes as needed

  • Communicates with insurance providers and handles pre-authorizations and certifications as necessary

  • Communicates with patients and other providers per the instruction of the overseeing physician or health practitioner

  • Performs clinical tasks such as blood draws, EKGs, urinalysis, and blood glucose testing

  • Prepares rooms, arranges instruments and equipment, and ensures a neat and sanitary environment

  • Rooms patients, verifies patient information, confirms purpose of visit, obtains and records vitals and updates medical history

  • Supports practice needs with clerical tasks such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, collecting co-pays, preparing lab requests
