Job Description

Position Purpose

This position functions as part of the Clinical Engineering team providing medical equipment and technology management services to Renown Health. The CET 2 is required to install, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and verify the performance of complex biomedical equipment with minimal supervision. Increasing aspects of the job are administrative and consultative, participating in equipment and resource planning and allocation, providing technical consultation, assistance, and training to organizational personnel participating in projects, and activities in assigned service areas.

Nature and Scope

The Clinical Engineering Technician 2 supports a safe patient care environment through effective management of clinical engineering technology. This role requires strong teamwork, communication, and coordination, along with the ability to work independently, adapt to changing priorities, and perform effectively under time‑sensitive conditions to restore critical equipment and systems while aligning with Renown Health Mission and Values.

The CET II is a member of the Clinical Engineering team that works with increasing independence and self-initiative. Responsibilities to include completing work assignments, sharing information with other team members, ordering parts, shop supplies and pursuing quality/performance improvement opportunities.

Differentiates equipment failures from normal use, manufacturing defect, external environmental conditions, physical damage, or operator education opportunities Troubleshoots equipment failure to the assembly level, as appropriate and most cost effective. Orders parts considering alternative parts options for cost savings and improvements. Determines vendor service requirements; arranges and monitors vendor service. Repairs or oversees repairs of equipment. Calibrates to manufacturer’s specifications and inspects for proper operation prior to returning equipment to service. Documents in detail all work performed and parts used.

Performs and documents preventative and corrective maintenance and incoming inspections as assigned. Work includes physical, functional, and electrical safety inspections. Coordinates new equipment installations including, receiving, acceptance testing, physical installation. Assists senior CE staff in development and assignment of equipment risk designations. Reviews and gives feedback on revisions to preventative procedures. Assists other technicians in problem resolutions.

Performs incoming inspection of medical equipment items before use, including new, leased, loaned, rented, physician or patient owned. Inspection may include uncrating, assembly, checking equipment for physical shipping damage, comparison to purchase documents, complete system check-out against manufactures’ specifications, electrical safety testing, initiation of equipment historical documents in computerized maintenance and management system (CMMS), and coordination of installation and operator training.

Serves on multi-disciplinary work teams and special projects that are outside the normal responsibilities of the CE dept.

Research appropriate career advancement and vendor training opportunities. Share information and skills learned with other technicians upon return from vendor service school.

Assists senior CE staff with new equipment evaluations in conjunction with other departments. Learn from senior CE staff how to write technical assessments and/or recommendations on medical device purchases.

Work schedules may be shifted to accommodate needs of the organization and/or to accomplish special projects and service requirements. Callbacks for emergencies and overtime are occasionally required. Will be required to participate in the Clinical Engineering on-call schedule.

Description

Education:

Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to perform job duties safely and effectively. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a technical or electronics-related field, or equivalent military training, required.

Experience:

Minimum of two years of clinical engineering experience required.

License(s):

Valid State of Nevada or California Driver's license and ability to pass Renown Health's Department of Motor Vehicle Report criteria within 30 days of hire.

Certification(s):

A Certified Associate in Biomedical Technology (CABT) certification must be obtained by the time of hire if the candidate does not meet the specified education requirement.

Computer / Typing:

Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
