Garden Center Yard Associate at Hillside Garden Ace Hardware – Belmont, Massachusetts

Job Summary:

Hillside Gardens Ace Hardware is a fast-paced, high-volume nursery/garden center seeking a dependable and hardworking yard associate. This role is physically demanding and essential to daily operations: unloading deliveries, moving and organizing plant material, and loading bagged goods, and other landscaping materials for customers. The ideal candidate is reliable, safety-minded, and able to work efficiently in an outdoor environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Providing excellent customer service is the #1 priority here at Hillside Ace Hardware!
  Greeting customers in a friendly and timely manner. Assisting customers with plant selections based on their specifications. Educating customers with proper care, planting instructions, and our Briggs guarantee. Expected to be helpful, polite, and sincere both over the phone and in-person.

• Timely and thorough watering of all yard stock.

• Unload and receive trees, shrubs, and nursery stock from delivery trucks.

• Load trees, soil, mulch, & landscaping materials into vehicles safely and efficiently.

• Move, stage, and organize plant material throughout the yard.

• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the yard area.

• Operate hand trucks, pallet jacks, carts, and other yard equipment.

• Follow all safety procedures and lifting techniques.

• Using company radios to communicate with employees professionally.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy items (often 50–100 lbs.) repeatedly over the course of a 6-8hr shift

• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods

Qualifications:

• Knowledge of trees, shrubs, and plants.

• Prior nursery, landscaping, or yard work experience preferred, but not required.

• Strong work ethic and reliable.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

• Good communication and customer service skills.
