Job Overview:
The Corporate Director of Environmental Services is responsible for the overarching vision, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and quality outcomes for housekeeping and laundry services across the system. This role will lead the charge in ensuring that every facility within the RWJBH system provides a safe, sterile, and welcoming environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while managing the fiscal and operational complexities of a large-scale outsourced partnership
Qualifications:
Required:
- A minimum of five years of experience as a director leading Environmental Services operations in a large hospital, hospitality industry, integrated healthcare delivery system or academic medical center.
- Demonstrated success in managing annual operational budgets exceeding $30 million and achieving significant (minimum 5-7%) productivity and process improvement year-over-year.
- Proven track record as the lead for successful, large-scale patient throughput and capacity management initiatives.
- Exceptional financial, analytical, project management, and contract negotiation skills demonstrated in a competitive market.
- Must possess strong research and analytical skills, as well as excellent written & oral communications skills
- Ability to deliver information accurately in a fast-paced environment with insight and perspective.
Essential Functions:
- Strategic Oversight: Align Aramark’s service delivery with RWJBH’s mission. Develop and implement system-wide EVS standards to ensure consistency across all hospital sites.
- High-Reliability Operations (HRO): Lead the application and integration of High Reliability Organization (HRO) principles within Environmental Services to directly mitigate patient safety risks, reduce hospital-acquired infection (HAI) rates, and ensure meticulous regulatory compliance (Joint Commission, CMS).
- Performance Management: Monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including HCAHPS scores (Cleanliness of Hospital Environment), infection prevention metrics, and budgetary compliance.
- Operational Performance Command: Establish and maintain a System-wide Operational Performance Framework utilizing predictive logistics and real-time analytics to monitor service level agreements (SLAs), productivity, and operational flow across the network.
- Infection Prevention Collaboration: Partner closely with Clinical Leadership and Infection Prevention to refine disinfection protocols and ensure compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, and NJ Department of Health standards.
- Standardization & Innovation: Set and enforce uniform operating procedures, performance metrics, and technology platforms across all business units and sites to ensure consistent brand standards and operational excellence. Explore and implement disruptive technologies (e.g., AI, automation, robotics) to maximize efficiency and service quality.
- Vendor & Partnership Management: Define the Enterprise Outsourcing Strategy for support services. Oversee strategic vendor selection, complex contract negotiation, and long-term performance management of all major external partners to ensure optimal operational flexibility and financial value realization.
- Human Capital Development: Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and professional growth within Environmental Services system-wide.
- Innovation & Sustainability: Drive the adoption of new technologies (e.g. UV-C disinfection, autonomous scrubbers) and lead sustainability initiatives related to waste management and green cleaning practices.
- Service Integration: Work in an interdisciplinary fashion, across the care delivery spectrum, to ensure support services are seamlessly integrated with clinical teams, enhancing access, clinical outcomes, and the overall patient journey.
- Budget & Resource Accountability: Monitor and manage multi-site, multi-million dollar operational and capital budgets with an emphasis on transparency, financial efficiency, and return on investment (ROI).
- Leadership Development: Promote teamwork and professional growth, encouraging creativity and accountability. Build a robust, cohesive leadership team and talent pipeline for succession planning across all support services functions.
