Position Summary:
The Department of Surgery at theUniversity of New Mexico (UNM) School of Medicine (SOM) is currently seeking aqualified candidate at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor of Surgeryto serve in the role of Division Chief for Urologic Surgery. Reporting to the Chair of Surgery, theincoming Chief will be responsible for partnering with the Chair to developclinical programs and expand research while focusing on academic success in acollaborative environment. The DivisionChief will oversee clinical service, patient care, research and scholarship,education and mentorship. The growth anddevelopment of faculty within the division is a priority for the department andoffers tremendous opportunity for the new division chief. The incumbent will have a proven record ofaccomplishment in leadership, clinical excellence, patient care, education, andmentorship in order to develop the Division in all of its mission areas.

The UNM Division of Urology currentlyconsists of fellowship-trained and specialized urologists within the fields ofoncology, pediatrics, GU soft tissue reconstruction, robotics, reconstructiveurology and renal transplantation. Surgeonswithin the division provide full urologic care to a variety of benign andmalignant conditions. This positionwould work closely with the residency program. The UNM Division of Urology and Department ofSurgery boast a robust infrastructure of services and resources to help achieveacademic goals, and leadership opportunities are available.

UNM serves a large, medically complexpopulation and is a consultative resource for the State of New Mexico and theFour Corners region of the Southwest United States. Outpatient surgicalservices are provided through the UNM Hospital, UNM Sandoval Regional MedicalCenter, and the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center (UNMCCC), the only NationalCancer Institute (NCI)-designated Cancer Center in a 500-mile radius. TheUNM Health Science Center (HSC) is the largest academic health complex in thestate of New Mexico and is the only Level 1 trauma center. It is the state's only site for urologicresidency training. Located on theUniversity of New Mexico campus in beautiful Albuquerque, NM, the HSC combinesits four mission areas - education, research, patient care and communityoutreach - to provide New Mexicans with the highest level of health care.

  • Medical Doctor or equivalent
  • Board-certified/board-eligible InUrology through the American Board of Urology
  • Eligible for medical licensure inNew Mexico
  • Eligible for State of New MexicoBoard of Pharmacy certification
  • Eligible for a federal DEA registration
  • Eligible to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications forPosition:

  • Completion of an ACGME UrologyResidency
  • Experience with professionaleducation, teaching, and research
  • Evidence of leadership roles inacademic medicine
  • Experience mentoring of juniorfaculty
  • Demonstrated ability to create andarticulate a shared vision and engage others in its implementation
  • Interest and proficiency inmanagement of complex general urologic disease including newer treatments
  • Interest and proficiency in minimally invasive surgicaltechniques, including robotic surgery
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion,and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
