About This Position
Under the general supervision of the Electrical Manager, participates in and assists with the planning of departmental programs and supervises and coordinates the daily operations and maintenance and repair of electrical systems and heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems (HVAC) and controls used in all Fairfax Water facilities.
Assists with departmental programs and supervises and coordinates the daily operations and activities of a group of electricians engaged in the installation, alteration, maintenance and repair of electrical and HVAC systems in the production, treatment, and distribution of water and supervises and coordinates the daily operations and activities of a group of technicians by:
- Performing various administrative tasks, including but not limited to, conducting employee performance reviews, interviewing for staff vacancies, approving leave and other personnel related activities, scheduling employee training, obtaining vendor quotes, and ensuring electricians complete all Fairfax Water safety programs.
- Maintaining inventory for the virtual warehouse in the Integrated Enterprise System (SAP).
- Tracking hazardous waste for quarterly pickup.
- Tracking fuel oil for boiler/generator systems.
- Utilizing SAP to schedule, plan and track costs, parts, projects, and work orders, and scheduling and coordinating the completion efforts of electrical assignments with other departments.
- Scheduling, overseeing and assisting the preventative maintenance program development.
- Overseeing the safety program and assisting with its development that includes the use of tools and equipment.
- Assigning work detail to work crews and assuring all work shifts are adequately staffed.
- Providing training and instruction to junior electricians in techniques, operating practices, and safety regulations.
- Supervising and inspecting all major electrical equipment repairs to include: motors, transformers, generators, power distribution systems, control equipment, high voltage switchgears and variable frequency drives.
- Scheduling overseeing and/or assisting electricians in a variety of skilled installation, calibration, modification, testing, repair, rebuilding, replacing and preventive maintenance tasks associated with all types of HVAC equipment of include: Gas and oil-fired commercial boilers, water and fuel feeds, power sources, burners, controls, associated components such as electrical wiring and circuits, blowers, air handlers, dehumidifiers, heat pumps, air conditioning units, ducts, thermostats, pumps, piping systems, radiators, heating and cooling coils, testing and treating the water in HVAC systems and other HVAC equipment used in all Fairfax Water facilities.
- Understanding the plants SCADA system troubleshooting and repairs.
- Utilizing general knowledge of plant distribution and transmission lines.
- Inspecting, troubleshooting and determining the nature and extent of repairs required, identifying repair costs, work sequences and repairing complex HVAC equipment and systems.
- Graduation from high school or equivalent, and a minimum of seven years progressively responsible electrical experience in which at least four years have been in a leadership capacity in the installation, calibration, maintenance, modification and repair of a wide variety of Electrical and HVAC equipment or any equivalent combination of education, experience, or knowledge.
- Possession of a Journeyman Mechanical (HVAC) license.
- Possession of a Journeyman Electrician's license.
- Possession of a CFC License.
- Must obtain Forklift certification.
- Must attend Fairfax Water HAZWOPER and First Aid/CPR training.
- Thorough knowledge of National and County electrical and safety codes applicable to installation, maintenance and repair work.
- Ability to diagnose and correct highly complex electrical systems and equipment problems.
- Ability to read and work from electrical drawings, schematics, control circuit and one line diagrams.
- Ability to plan, organize, supervise and work effectively with others.
- Ability to personally perform skilled electrical work.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and reports in SAP.
- Ability to estimate labor and material requirements.
- Ability to differentiate between colors.
- Thorough knowledge of HVAC theory and the materials, methods, practices, tools and equipment used in the operation, installation and maintenance of HVAC equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, managers and the public.
- Ability to work overtime and standby as required.
- Possession of a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
- Must pass a controlled substance (drug) test for employment. This position is also subject to random testing after hire.
