About This Position
Indiana University of Pennsylvania invites applicants for a Controller in the Office of Financial Operations (MGR210).
Join our dynamic community at IUP as a Controller, where your expertise will play a pivotal role in shaping the financial future of IUP. The Controller - Director of Financial Operations is responsible for numerous compliance and regulatory requirements for federal and Commonwealth agencies, and grantors, including the annual financial and single audits, and filing of tax information with the IRS and Commonwealth. The Controller manages the relationship with the external auditors, coordinates the annual financial and single audits, communicates audit requirements within the university, and is the administrator for the University’s online banking and investment portals. The university office needs a leader who embraces change, challenges and questions the ways in which the department conducts business, improves processes, advances the department into the digital age, and realigns responsibilities within the Controller’s office. The position reports to the Associate Vice President for Finance, and actively participates in meetings with the State System of Higher Education’s controller and peers within the State System.

MINIMUM:
- Bachelors degree in Accounting
- Current license as a Certified Public Accountant(CPA) or candidate must be working towards obtaining a CPA license within two years of employment with IUP.
- Masters degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
- Minimum of three years’ experience as an accounting manager in higher education
- Minimum of five years’ experience supervising employees with accounting degrees
- Experience preparing consolidated financial statements and serving as the primary contact with external auditors.
- Knowledge of relevant GASB or FASB fund accounting reporting requirements
Candidates must have the communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to maximize their effectiveness with diverse groups of students, colleagues, and community members.
Candidates must communicate effectively and perform well in the interview(s).
The work of this position occurs in a typical office environment. Although infrequent, periods of heavy exertion may occur. Incumbent must have the following abilities:
- Ability to travel to field locations and meeting/training sites by motor vehicle when required.
- Communicate both orally and in writing to issue, receive and carry out instructions and orders effectively and to convey information to a variety of co-workers and the general public.
- Use a variety of common office machines such as telephones, calculators, copiers, computer terminals, keyboards, video display terminals, auxiliary printers and similar equipment.
- Perform manual duties such as lifting and carrying various weight limits.
- Operate office equipment which may require stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching and prolonged standing.
- Provide assistance and guidance to internal and external customers.
- Follow oral and written instructions.
