Calibration Lab Chief will apply measurement science, mathematics, and physics to develop, document, and maintain FMC’s calibration system, procedures, and methods for the re-defined time, mass, temperature, ampere, and other derived International System of Units (SI) and, Measurement and Test Equipment (M&TE) based on analysis of measurement problems and measurement uncertainty; Analyze and solve calibration problems using advanced mathematical and engineering knowledge; Evaluate new calibration methods and procedures; Use statistics to analyze calibration standards and processes; Recommend calibration standards and M&TE; Perform laboratory administration and management.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Ensure all airflow testing is performed according to Customer requirements or SOP
- Provide the technical interface with Customer Service
- Develop and evaluate calibration systems that measure characteristics of objects, substances, or phenomena, such as length, mass, time, temperature, electric current, luminous intensity, and other derived units of physical or chemical measurements
- Approve all requisitions of primary and secondary flow elements
- Approve all calibration sources for primary and secondary flow elements
- Review and approve the technical and quality details of test and calibration reports
- Provide the training for accredited tests and calibrations, and the authorization of staff members to perform these tests and calibrations
- Identify and document the magnitude of error sources contributing to uncertainty of result to determine reliability of a measurement process in quantitative terms
- Develop and modify calibration methods and techniques based on principles of metrology, technical analysis of measurement problems, and measurement uncertainty requirements
- Direct Engineering, Quality, and Laboratory staff in design, manufacture, evaluation, and calibration of measurement standards, instruments, and test systems to ensure they adequately meet measurement uncertainty requirements
- Supervise laboratory personnel in the execution FMC calibration laboratory activities per ISO 17025
- Notify the department Director and Quality Director of any calibration problems that need resources outside FMC
- Endorse certificates of calibration and test reports, as needed
- Capable of calculating all needed calibration parameters, with the aid of workbooks or software
- Participate in management review meeting
- Participate in the process of staff selection, when applicable
- Must have the ability to travel within the U.S. and internationally without restriction and, upon request prior to travel, must be able to provide any documentation that may be required by the country of destination
Requirements:

- Must have good communication skills and the ability to work harmoniously with personnel at all levels within the company
- Must have a good mechanical aptitude
- Maintain an excellent attendance record
- Must be organized and possess time management skills and skills to adapt to priority changes
- Perform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned
- Technically proficient with guard banding, proficiency testing, SI traceability, calculation of measurement uncertainty and periodic standards check
- Must meet the ITAR definition of US Person(s)
- Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions in English
- Must be able to write and document information clearly in English
- Requires a Bachelor’s (BS) degree from an accredited four-year college or university, preferably in Metrology, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering Technology, plus 5 years’ experience in the repair and calibration of M&TE, or the equivalent combination of education and experience. In lieu of a BS degree, 10 years of experience with FMC calibration is acceptable
- Experience working with a Quality Management System registered to AS9100 is desirable
- Previous work in a calibration position with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity
- Technical knowledge of methods for airflow measurement and testing using sonic nozzles
- Must pass the ASQ CCT Exam within 12 months of hire
- Familiar with applicable metrology standards and procedures, including but not limited to: A2LA, BIPM, CP, ILAC, NCSLI, Nadcap, PI, QP and Customer
- MTI is a safety sensitive manufacturer. As such, successful results of pre-employment drug screening will be required.
Physical Demands/ Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, move throughout the facility, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and communicate. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment may be loud. Must be able to use required Personal Protective Equipment.
