Avesta Housing is seeking a compassionate and mission-driven Director of Independent Living to lead our 88-unit Independent Living program and resident services at 75 State Street.

In this leadership role, you'll oversee the Independent Living team, coordinate resident care and service plans, and ensure residents receive high-quality, person-centered support that promotes independence and well-being. You'll collaborate with residents, families, healthcare providers, and community partners while managing occupancy goals, departmental operations, and resident programs. Located in the historic West End neighborhood of Portland, Maine, 75 State Street is a nonprofit senior community offering a continuum of care that includes Independent Living and Assisted Living. What We're Looking For

The person who is ready for this opportunity will generally offer these attributes:

  • Excellent judgment and ability to independently research information when a solution is not obvious
  • Genuine interest in working with a geriatric population
  • Caring disposition
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to relate effectively to individuals with diverse backgrounds, abilities, preferences, and needs
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Health care professional with experience in healthcare settings, preferably with older adults/senior living.
  • Minimum of seven years related professional experience, including at least two years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Strong preference for experience working in a senior living care setting, with proven experience in managing high-quality employees.
  • LPN or MSW preferred.
  • Proficiency with technology, including MS Office Suite, Caremerge, and PointClickCare.
  • Ability to skillfully resolve sensitive and challenging family and resident situations.
  • Comprehensive understanding of residents’ rights under Maine law.
  • Ability to work occasionally outside of traditional business hours including weekends.

This is an exempt, full-time position with an annual salary range of $70,000 - $88,000, based on experience.
