Professional Coding Specialist II-(Inpatient Notes-Multispecialty Experience)

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Professional Coding Specialist II-(Inpatient Notes-Multispecialty Experience) based in United States.

This remote role is an opportunity for an experienced medical coding professional to support accurate, compliant, and timely coding across multispecialty healthcare services.
You will review complex clinical documentation and translate diagnoses and procedures into accurate ICD-10, CPT, and modifier codes.
Your work will directly support appropriate reimbursement, clean billing, regulatory compliance, and revenue cycle performance.
The position also involves collaborating with physicians and other providers to resolve documentation gaps and strengthen coding accuracy.
You will contribute to audits, provider education, and the resolution of challenging patient accounts and billing issues.

This is a full-time remote position open to candidates anywhere in the United States.

Accountabilities:
  • Review and interpret medical records to identify diagnoses and procedures relevant to inpatient stays and outpatient encounters, assigning accurate ICD-10, CPT, and modifier codes.
  • Complete coding, charging, and account abstraction accurately and within required daily timelines for assigned specialty areas.
  • Ensure coding and documentation support clean claims, appropriate reimbursement, and compliance with applicable coding guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Communicate with physicians, providers, and other internal teams to obtain clarification or additional documentation needed for accurate coding assignments.
  • Monitor provider documentation and conduct coding audits to identify accuracy issues, following up with education and feedback when appropriate.
  • Partner with Revenue Cycle Operations to investigate missing charges, resolve problem accounts, and support claim development and billing resolution.
  • Maintain and strengthen coding expertise through quality reviews, clinical in-services, coding seminars, internal meetings, reference materials, and updates to coding manuals.
  • Meet established quality and productivity standards while independently prioritizing assignments and maintaining accuracy in a high-volume environment.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Current HIM/coding certification through AHIMA or AAPC is required.
  • At least 2 years of medical coding experience is required.
  • Experience with professional/physician office coding, particularly across multispecialty environments, is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and medical coding practices is essential.
  • Ability to accurately interpret clinical documentation and apply ICD-10, CPT, and modifier coding principles.
  • Strong independent decision-making, organizational, prioritization, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing responsibilities and interruptions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with physicians, providers, and revenue cycle teams.
  • Ability to maintain concentration, accuracy, quality, and productivity in a high-volume and potentially high-stress environment.
  • Adaptability, accountability, and a commitment to continuous professional development are important for success.
  • Comfortable working remotely from anywhere in the United States and using computers and standard office technology for extended periods.
