Yard Operator in Belmont, West Virginia at Pleasants Power Station

Under direct supervision, operates heavy equipment such as track machines, wheeled machines, all coal conveying equipment, and other equipment associated with coal handling. Performs adjustments, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance work on yard equipment and structures.

1. Perform duties for the Clearance Program, such as directing, placing and removing tags.
2. Perform duties of the Confined Space Administrator.
3. Checks with employee who he/she relieves for special orders, abnormal conditions, and to obtain all pertinent information on operating conditions: examining log sheets to check operation, condition of equipment and to obtain information and instructions.
4. Operates yard equipment such as track machines, wheeled machines, including those equipped with a backhoe and locomotive: stocks, spread, compacts and reclaims coal.
5. Operates coal conveying equipment and associated apparatus, including the barge unloader, belt conveyors, crushers, shuttles, samplers, slide/flop gates, and vibrators. Removes foreign material from belts or other parts of conveyor system.
6. Operates coal conveying equipment from control panel to maintain proper supply and blend of fuel.
7. Performs the duties of a Deckhand.
8. Performs preventative maintenance on equipment.
9. Inspects, lubricates, cleans and services yard equipment and reports abnormal conditions to supervisor. Checks operation of coal handling equipment, makes adjustments and repairs to equipment.
10. Processes samples in accordance with Company Business Practice.
11. Operates the Barge Unloader and keeps accurate barge logs.
12. Communicates with all personnel using phonetic alphabet and three part communication.
13. Maintains workplace, tools and equipment in a neat and orderly condition.
14. Maintains and changes filters on coal handling heaters, ventilating, air moving and air conditioning equipment.
15. Directs and trains less experienced employees.
16. Performs all functions associated with unloading rail coal. Functions include locomotive operator, dumper operator, spotter, and coupler. Equipment associated with unloading rail coal includes Thaw Shed, Dumper, and switches.

When Assigned to Line/Gypsum Handling, duties include:

1. Operates Lime Unloading Crane and associated feeders, belts, slide gates, vibrators and dust collection systems to the Bulk Storage Silos.
2. Performs duties of a Lime Barge Handler to remove covers on barges.
3. Checks the operating condition of safety showers and eye wash stations.
4. Performs maintenance when operating equipment, assisting in and performing maintenance, repair, cleaning and overhaul work on plant and plant equipment when not performing operating duties.
5. Maintains assigned area and equipment in a neat and orderly condition.
6. Lubricates auxiliary equipment, changes oil in other assigned auxiliary equipment. Observes oil reservoirs for contaminants and takes oil inventories.
7. Collects samples, operates test instruments, performs routine analysis and tests associated with plant processes and records results and reports irregularities.
8. Directs and trains less experienced employees.
9. Performs duties of a Gypsum Load-out operator to transfer gypsum to empty barges for transport.

Qualifications:

Must meet the Company's requirements as to General Qualifications in accordance with the Job Manual including:

1. Must possess a minimum of a two-year technical degree in a related field from an accredited school or the equivalent in education, training and experience.
2. Must pass the Edison Electric Institute's POSS/MAA test
3. Must satisfactorily complete training courses for progression requirements.
4. Must possess a valid driver's license.
5. Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the operation and repair practices and procedures for yard equipment.
6. Demonstrate willingness, and ability to learn and perform the operation, care and functions of various equipment such as bulldozers, backhoes, conveyors and other Yard equipment.
7. Demonstrate satisfactory performance in the operation of Yard equipment under normal, abnormal and emergency conditions.
8. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of operation and application of applicable fire-fighting equipment and the safety, first aid and other resuscitation practices prescribed by the Company and/or Coast Guard.
9. Must demonstrate a working knowledge of the Yard layout, the functions and operation of the equipment located therein and the functional relationship with system operations.
10. Must demonstrate a thorough working knowledge and proficiency of the Company's safety Clearance Program

Must meet the Company's requirements as to General Qualifications for Yard Operator in accordance with the Job Manual and :

1. Must be Licensed Mariner by the U.S. Coast Guard and meet all Pleasants TPE requirements for a towboat pilot.
2. Maintain License in accordance with U.S. Coast Guard regulations. OR
3. Meet all Pleasants TPE requirements for operations the Lime Crane.
