Position Summary

The Body Shop Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the dealership’s collision repair department, including repair scheduling, staff supervision, guest service, quality control, and financial performance. This position ensures all repairs are completed efficiently, safely, and in accordance with manufacturer, insurance, and dealership standards. The ideal candidate is a motivated leader with strong collision repair knowledge, operational management skills, and a commitment to guest satisfaction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage daily operations of the body shop, including workflow, scheduling, and repair production.
  • Supervise body shop staff, including estimators, technicians, painters, and support personnel.
  • Monitor repair quality, cycle times, productivity, and guest satisfaction.
  • Review estimates, supplements, repair orders, and invoices for accuracy and completeness.
  • Coordinate with insurance companies, vendors, and parts departments to ensure timely repairs.
  • Maintain compliance with manufacturer requirements, OSHA regulations, and dealership policies.
  • Address guest questions, concerns, and escalated service issues professionally and promptly.
  • Assist with hiring, training, coaching, and performance evaluations of body shop employees.
  • Monitor departmental financial performance, expenses, and profitability goals.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and organization of body shop equipment and facilities.
  • Promote and enforce workplace safety standards and procedures.
  • Track operational performance metrics and implement process improvements as needed.
  • Maintain effective communication with dealership management and other departments.
  • Support inventory control and materials management within the body shop.
  • Perform additional management duties as assigned.
Requirements:

Qualifications

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of collision repair procedures, estimating systems, and insurance claim processes.
  • Excellent communication and guest service abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong understanding of workplace safety standards and body shop operations.
  • Proficiency in estimating software, dealership management systems (DMS), and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to motivate and lead a team effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and operational efficiency.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical or vocational training in collision repair preferred.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of body shop or collision repair experience required.
  • Prior supervisory or management experience preferred.
  • I-CAR, ASE, or manufacturer certifications preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and movement throughout the body shop.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work around vehicles, paint materials, repair equipment, and shop tools.
  • Manual dexterity to operate computers, phones, and office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and electronically.

Work Environment

Fast-paced automotive body shop environment with exposure to noise, vehicle fumes, paint materials, and repair equipment. Frequent interaction with employees, guests, vendors, and insurance representatives is required. Occasional extended hours may be necessary to meet production schedules and guest demands.
