Job Description
Hours: M-F - Start time needs to be between 7:00 AM - 9:00 AM and then 8.5/9.0 hour shift with 30 or 60 minute lunch.
Shift: Day shift - In house M-F
Salary Range: $75,000.00 - $100,000.00 Annually
TEST ENGINEER
As the Test Engineer at Kratos, you will be responsible for developing, executing, and improving electrical and mechanical test processes for UL 891 switchboards, metal-clad medium voltage switchgear, and related power distribution equipment. This role is highly hands-on and requires strong technical troubleshooting ability, attention to detail, and close coordination with Engineering, Production, Quality, and Field Service teams.
The Test Engineer will develop the test procedures, protocols and documentation used by the Test Technician team. While this position works closely with Quality and Production to support manufacturing operations, it does not directly supervise test personnel.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop, maintain, and improve a modular library of electrical and mechanical test procedures for switchboards, medium voltage switchgear, control systems, and related power distribution equipment
- Support and periodically perform production testing, functional testing, continuity checks, control circuit verification, and other product validation activities
- Review electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, bills of material, and customer specifications to determine test requirements
- Support testing of protective relays, meters, breakers, PLCs, HMIs, control wiring, CT/PT circuits, and other electrical components as applicable
- Troubleshoot electrical issues identified during production, testing, inspection, or customer witness activities
- Develop documentation that allows for clear test selection based on product type, recording of test results and next steps, including pass/fail results, deficiencies, rework requirements, and final acceptance records
- Support factory acceptance testing, customer witness testing, and third-party inspection activities as needed
- Ensure testing is performed in compliance with company procedures, customer requirements, and applicable industry standards
- Assist in the development and improvement of test fixtures, test equipment, and production test methods
- Identify opportunities to improve test efficiency, product quality, documentation accuracy, and first-pass yield
- Collaborate with Quality on non conformance reports, corrective actions, and process improvement initiatives
- Provide technical support to Production personnel during assembly, wiring, inspection, and test activities
- Maintain a strong focus on electrical safety, proper test practices, and safe work procedures in a manufacturing environment
- Support Engineering with prototype and certification testing, design validation, and product improvement efforts
- Assist with training production or test personnel on proper test procedures, documentation expectations, and troubleshooting methods

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related Engineering field preferred; equivalent industry experience may be considered
- 1+ years of engineering, manufacturing, electrical testing, controls, or power distribution experience in an industrial or technical environment.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical designs, bills of material, and customer specifications
- Experience using electrical test equipment such as multimeters, hipot testers, insulation resistance testers, power supplies, current sources, relay test sets, and other diagnostic tools
- Familiarity with protective relays, circuit breakers, meters, PLCs, HMIs, CTs, PTs, and control components preferred
- Experience in a manufacturing, production, or industrial equipment environment strongly preferred
- Strong documentation skills with the ability to produce accurate test records, issue reports, and technical findings
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Production, Quality, Project Management, and Field Service teams
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities
- High attention to detail and commitment to safety, product quality, and customer satisfaction
PREFERRED SKILLS
- Experience testing, troubleshooting, or supporting electrical power distribution equipment (UL891 Switchboards, metal-clad medium voltage switchgear, electrical controls) strongly preferred
- Working knowledge of applicable electrical standards, including UL508A, UL891, NEC/NFPA requirements, and related industry practices
- Basic programming or automation experience (ladder logic or PLC programming experience)
- Experience improving manufacturing test processes, engineering documentation, and quality procedures
