POSITION PURPOSE / JOB SUMMARY

  • The music teacher is responsible for teaching music weekly to our kindergarten-4th-grade students, working to infuse the love of music across history and teaching the elements and principles of music theory. The music teacher will work in collaboration with our other teaching teams and curriculum. In addition, the music teacher will participate in teaching choir, and possibly other music projects that may come up in the future.

JOB STRUCTURE AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

  • Exempt, part-time employee status
  • Schedule days: Monday - Friday, approximately 20 hours/week
  • Attends monthly staff meetings and required training
  • Reports to the Director of Lower Campus

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Required:
  • 2+ years of experience teaching and/or leading in a classroom setting.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in education or an equivalent area of study is required.
  • Experience with Classical Education is highly desirable.
  • A basic understanding of technology, including knowledge of Word, Pages, Excel, Google, etc.; Mac literacy is desirable.
  • Other requirements for employment include a current First Aid/CPR certification and Live Scan clearance through SLO Classical Academy.
  • Preferred:
  • Familiarity with school, non-profit, and business laws
  • Technology - Mac literate; knowledge of Word, Excel, Google, etc.

  • Committed to supporting and upholding the school’s unique makeup as non-sectarian and accessible to families and employees from various backgrounds and beliefs

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach elements and principles of music theory at a developmentally appropriate age, using hands-on, engaging methodology.
  • Teach choral skills while inspiring the developing curiosity, which is a characteristic of the Grammar Stage
  • Inspire the development of curiosity, wonder, and the love of music.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teaching teams to provide an enriching, thoughtful, and developmentally appropriate curriculum that incorporates the tenets of classical education and coordinates, as possible, with our other instruction (following the history cycle, etc.)
  • Provide quality instruction and learning opportunities for students
  • Spend a reasonable amount of time out of class on curricula development, lesson planning, and preparing to provide in-class services
  • Attend and take part in various school events
  • Attend necessary meetings such as Family Action Plans, department, and team meetings, etc.
  • Provide a safe environment and supervision at all times while creating a positive learning space
  • Openly communicating with families and staff at all levels
  • Developing and implementing daily and weekly lesson plan activities that meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs of the children in the program
  • Perform other duties as required
  • Staff members must adhere to all Administrative Directives and applicable SLOCA Policies, including those expressly outlined in theEmployee Manual.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Able to lift to 50 pounds on a limited basis. Able to stand, kneel, bend, stoop, and move around campuses easily for extended periods. Able to work irregular hours to attend or support meetings, school events, etc.
