Job Description
Job Purpose
To perform unskilled machine maintenance work and assist mechanics in performing manual work such as moving equipment, tools, and materials.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs manual tasks such as assisting mechanics in carrying machine parts and tools and materials to and from the job, lifts and holds parts, cleans up work areas, etc.
- Assist trade person with dismantling, overhauling, and assembling of equipment and machinery.
- Under direction of the trade’s person, cuts, grinds, and files parts of metal stock.
- Operate metal handsaw, use pedestal or drill press for rough work.
- Cleans and washes equipment and machinery.
- Scrapes paint, grease, and other accumulated material from equipment.
- Performs routine oiling and greasing of maintenance to shop equipment.
- May be assigned cleaning and sweep-up duties in the maintenance shop and yard.
- Additional duties as assigned

Education and Experience: High school degree or equivalent. Experience with small engine and shipyard industry
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Satisfactory company work records, including attendance.
- Manual dexterity skills.
- Ability to lift 100 pounds infrequently.
- Frequently works with gloves and eye protection.
- Willingness to work either day or afternoon shifts and regular Saturday and Sunday overtime, if required.
