BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Injury Prevention Coordinator uses regional and state data metrics to identify high risk mechanisms of injury in the pediatric patient. The Injury Prevention Coordinator coordinates education, interventions and injury prevention campaigns across the spectrum of trauma care with the end goal of decreasing childhood morbidity and mortality due to trauma and injury.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, paramedic program, public health or related degree.
Degree:
Bachelor’s Degree (Required)
Master’s Degree in Public Health, Education, Nursing, Social Services or closely related field (preferred)
License/Certification Required:
Current unrestricted Tennessee driver’s license
Current AHA BLS certification
Child Passenger Safety Technician (obtained within first year of employment)
Minimum Work Experience:
3-5 years of Pediatric Emergency or Trauma care, prehospital care, public or community healthcare with program management experience
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to translate complex data into a written community needs assessment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills including use of Microsoft programs
Strong interpersonal skills to relate with a variety of stakeholders
Ability to travel within a large geographical region of East Tennessee
Grant writing experience (preferred)
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Analyzes regional and state metrics to identify high risk mechanisms of injury in the pediatric population.
Leads the strategic planning process that utilizes a multifaceted approach to child injury prevention.
Drafts annual injury prevention needs assessment using available regional and state data
Develops and coordinates education, interventions and injury prevention campaigns across the spectrum of trauma care with the end goal of decreasing childhood morbidity and mortality due to trauma and injury.
Uses the results of outcome evaluations to make or recommend process and system changes, including policy, procedures or protocols, as appropriate.
Prepares monthly reports regarding injury prevention activities.
Integrates research findings into practice and where appropriate, participates in the generation of new knowledge in innovative ways.
Participates in workshops and meetings with, and provides consultation to, professional healthcare and community organizations relative to pediatric injury prevention
Facilitates collaboration and network building between facilities and services within the region to ensure continuity of injury prevention education and interventions.
Works collaboratively with Community Outreach, Trauma & Outreach, inpatient units, primary care offices and other Dolly Children’s clinical departments to ensure continuity of injury prevention messaging.
Serves as Dolly Parton Children’s Hospital and the community’s advocate and expert on childhood injury prevention.
Collaborates with Safe Kids Worldwide and various community organizations and leaders to help familiies and communities keep kids safe.
Writes and manages grant proposals in support of injury prevention efforts in collaboration with marketing partners
Demonstrates knowledge of current practice standards, laws, and regulations.

Heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling is required up to 50 lbs occasionally, 20-30 lbs frequently, and 10lbs constantly to move objects of up to 150 lbs. Sudden emergency situations have the potential for exposure to lifting or moving of up to 150 lbs. Frequent bending, walking, sitting squatting, reaching, and standing are required. Keyboard/computer use and/or repetitive motions may be required.
